smith amj?

hi guys, im in the market for a new jigging rod for this sambo season and im not sure on what to get, the reel im using is a 10,000sw with 60lb frog p.e and ill be running pretty tight drag so i need a nice rod that can handle it and put some hurt on the fish but i dont want it to be a complete broomstick. ive been looking into the smith amj rods but there are so many different models i cant decide which is best. the models ive been looking at are the s52ex, s56m or the 52m. Id like to have a nice curve on the rod and that i can comfortably fish with all day, if anyone has any of those models or any advice on which one to get that will be great.

I was looking at S54H to match with an 8000, perhaps the 52EX if you want to fish it a bit harder. Either way a very sweet rod IMO, can't go wrong mate

Oldies but goodies
Chrisp has a 52m I believe (where are ya hotdogs) & it's well balanced to a 8000pg running high strength pe5. The ex is a fairly forgiving rod, not a stump puller though.
If buying from US, they represent good value for money.
There are plenty more options, but if you're keen on the Smith... go for it.

Jigging master have produced
Jigging master have produced some tough blanks (also forgiving & I've seen a few high sticked to heaven without breaking).
I find options in Perth are limited (IMO)... and prices excessive.

Daz, hotdogs is a 54H...
The M models would be too light for the 10k but either the 54H or 52EX would be suitable.
Personally I would be opting for the 54H but the latter allows you to push some heavier lines and even reels through it.

Smith
I run the 54H on my stella 8k with PE5 atm.Ive jigged up to 320grams with it no dramas. Its all iv'e used the last couple of sambo seasons and only on the rare occaision when ive hooked a horse have i thought the 52ex may be required.
Its a tough call, ive fished the 52ex as well and i love both models. The Ex will just give you the option to jig up to 450grams at a push and either rod will balance nicely with the 10000.
Just buy both..

Jigging Master
Smiths are a nice rod but pricey, Ryan came back from China recently and was suprised to see just how many rods (yes top brands hint hint) were made by the one manufacturer. As Daz said the Jigging Master are a great rod and priced right!

johnny
we have a big range of smith AMJ rods in the shop. Personaly i would go for the 54h, you will need a bigger reel for the 52ex and personally i feel it is just a tad too heavy to fish with all day and realisticly you don't need that much power for sambos. I use a 54h with a 8000sw running pe5 and have knocked over some pretty big fish on this combo.

I have a 52EX. Its a fricken beast. At least for me. Can put a lot of hurt on the sambos with one. Trying to decide if I should sell it and get the 54H instead. Though, I tend to like lighter rods in general. The 52EX feels like it'll pull my arms off sometimes, or overboard :p. On the plus side, it handles the 500g jigs you often need.

Both this and the H will fit
Both this and the H will fit the reel - however I would recommend the s52ex for Samsons. Its very forgiving, soft and will handle 300-odd grams for jigging without a problem.
Matt, a strong young bloke like you should be able to fish the s52ex to maximum saturation and still have reserves! There's a video floating around somewhere of me doing this when I was your age...

Personally I think the blank could be better made with better action. I understand its a technical jigging rod but too many flat spots for my liking...

Jigging Master Three Kings
Jigging Master Three Kings Medium, i'm running mine with a Stella 8000 and PE4 and it's a beautiful combo to use all day. Can jig a good spread of weights but still have lots of balls.
Or a cheaper option is the Powerspell series.

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

sorry, had a typo there, mine is a Three Kings L with a Stella 8k and PE4.
I've used a M a fair bit and it is one sweet heavier rod, easily fishing PE8 and jigs to 500g.

Hlokk I would agree with
Hlokk I would agree with you, hence my nirai being for sale. that said if it does not sell I will take it up to exxy next year and use it out near the rigs with heavier jigs and hopefully hook some bigger tuna with it or some big amberjack. My pick heavy outfit is my WGS smiths in the H. Overhead, can use it all day and does not feel like it is too much rod for me, but still a sweet heavy outfit with the SOM on it.
ALso just ordered a Maria PE3 rod which I can't wait to us with lighter jigs on Pinkies etc.

thanks guys for the information, the 54h looks like a good rod, but ive seen a few vids of the 52ex when hooked onto a fish and it looks insane, will have to go in with my reel and see which one fits and feels nicer. does the 54h and s52ex both have the same action and load?

If you're jack fishing, I
If you're jack fishing, I really recommend the AMJ-S52EX. It's got the backbone for the real big ones but is super versatile and will still make a smaller fish a fun fight. I've owned 4 of the AMJ models and the S52EX is the best one for all purpose jigging IMO.
