missus told me that she drove past a boat on the road (literally on the road with no trailer) coming home from work last night from Pluto. was apparently a pretty decent sized boat too around 5.5m
sounded pretty bad, so hope noone from here.

Yeah we
drove down from Minilya to Perth yesterday and saw that seafarer on the side of the road , I was thinking more like a trailer failure to start with as there didn't appear to be any damage I could see to the boat but it was strange that there was no one around at all mmm
Just one more cast , honest !!!

Thats my boat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not bloody good at all with both Spectra and the U bolt snapping going through a bump on the road. I have never heard of Spectra snapping but I can tell you its a sick feeling seeing your trailcraft sliding down the road, almost cleaning up the car behing in the process, and then blocking the whole road. I was going to post up about this because of the double failure.
For sure I will now tie another couple of anchor points, which I do for long trips, but have never bothered for the 15k trip to dampier.
Bloody ali's are tough, and apart from deep scrathes on the keel and port chime, the hull does not seem to have any damage that has perforated the integrity. Water tested the hull but will get a soap and pressure test.
The bottom of the motor also coped a bit off a graze, but overall I think we were very lucky.
Didnt loose anything in the boat, 10 rods all stayed in position.
Was a squid mission, and we got our feed, which was in an ice bucket, and needless to say the whole inside of the boat wore that.
Big clean yesterday and that was ouch.
Bloody hell boys and girls, despite boating for years and sometimes thinking you know it all it seriously can still bite you. Just so lucky the next cars wasnt cleaned up, and it was one of the local pharmacists family in there.
Thanks to all the people who helped jimmying the boat back on the trailor with some improvisation.

shit mate, I guess that was
shit mate, I guess that was probably the best result in the end. I hope the pressure test come up thumbs up too.
I used to be slack tying the old boat down for short trips but now the new rig is 6m the rear tie downs and twin safety chains go on before we even leave the ramp.

Dont worry Tim
I think I will be lucky, but I have learned from this big time, even though I always thought for short trips the 2 ties where good enough. Not anymore.

With the usual end off work timing
thats for sure. The cars where pretty packed and it was very lucky for the ones behind IMO. And I certainly was not in the mood to treat someone at a roadside accident!!! Especially one caused by me.

glad to see the end result
glad to see the end result wasn't as bad as it could have been Neels, By spectra i'm assuming the winch cable/strap and the u bolt on the winch post?
got any pics mate? i must say i don't strap the new boat, the Poly had a strap over the rear but that was because of launching at Withnell Bay and considering how easy the enw rig comes off i might have to look into some tiedowns that don't scuff the fibreglass

My boat was the signature
My boat was the signature directly behind you. I did not know it was you, now we have met!!
I cant beleive how it looked like "slow motion" as it just slid off the trailer and turned slightly to starboard. There was a patch of thick gear oil on the road, is it from the engine leg??
I do have some photos which I could email to you, I'm not capable of posting photos up on here at work. PM me an email address and I can forward the photos my friend took while we were winching her back on.

yes brucesta
Spectra is winch line stronger than steal cable??? And the U bolt on the chain wasnt up to the shock. We hit a depression in the road that I didnt see until it was out from under the car infront and I suspect thats what caused the Spectra to part, but i am not sure.
Pale ale will pm you and have already contacted someone to give you guys a nice drop for helping out mate. Was awesome because there was no way I could have gotten her back on without help. TKU.
The leg got some scratches, but it does not look like anything more than superficial. It might have been the fluid from the Squid that went everywhere!!!! LOL

Spectra
May be stronger than steel for its weight in lifting capacity, but actually has poor wear abrasion. It is similar in construction to braided fishing lines. As it is low stretch, its shock loading is also not brilliant.
What was the shackle? Was it galv hardware or rated shackle?

Galv mate
Might upgrade to rated shackle now, but it wasnt a small one!

Those pics were taken after
Those pics were taken after we (with the help of a bus load of workers) straightened the boat up on the road. She was almos at a 90 degree angle to what is in the pics.
Hopefully insurance will cover the damage. I saw the bent up shackle and the busted rope. Hard to beleive that would happen.

Hmmm Tough hey?
Not sure how tough I would need to be to take the punishment and ridicule from my wife if that happened LOL. I hope things all work out without too much additional expense. Great pics by the way.

Vince you are sooooo spot on!!!!
I have had to endure every accusation under the sun. Did you check this, why didnt you do that, why was the robe old, why is the shackle weak etc etc. funny how its our fault hey, not something wrong with the gear!! LOL.

Sorry to bump this back
But if anyone one here has some more photos of the accident I would appreciate them for Insurance reasons. Damage adds up and it was above what I could do and had to claim.
Cheers
