Sounder course

 Just curious as to who's going to the sounder course on Monday? I'm hoping to get some fine tuning tips for my 585, should be very interesting.

Sounder Night

Thu, 2014-05-08 12:21

See you boys then and it will be a good night for sure.

If you guys have a Furuno 620, 627, 585 or 587 you can bring in the head unit that night. Josh and Ryan will offer their prefered settings and change your unit that night (if you want)

Cheers

Furuno Settings

Mon, 2014-05-12 15:04

Marineboy,

Everyone has their own personal opinion on sounder settings but this is what we use as a general guide on most recreational Furuno units;

Settings for shallow water ie demersal fishing etc with the FCV585/587 or FVC620/627;

TVG - Med
HF Gain 5.0
Colour erase 20% (minimize weak echos)
Clutter 10% (minimize ground readings)
Screen speed 1/2 (slowest to use/gives better resolution)
Screen speed 1/1 (Fastest to use/gives less resolution)
Black background/hue (makes the dense blue & red colours/quality fish standout)
Manual "everything " (no auto stuff/excluding interference)
Set you range to 10/12/15/20m for SHIFT control use (that way you are only looking at the bottom 10/12/15/20m etc where the fish are)
We use 10 or 12m range with SHIFT control in 35-45m
We use 15 or 20m range with SHIFT control in 50-80m
Set you FUNC buttom to SHIFT (easy access to SHIFT control)
These setting are ideal for 0-100m of water

Hope that helps

Does this change depending on

Mon, 2014-05-12 16:36

Does this change depending on Transducer?... I just have the p66 and have generally only been in the 20-30m depth... Last trip out everything was in auto but I think it may have been too sensitive as I was getting a red line across the screen from just my jig moving up and down

Sounder settings

 Marineboy

Over the years there have been a number of posts and input from numerous fishos with respect to sounder settings.  The image below is of a table I created some time ago showing the comments of 5 people who are represented by columns A, B, C, D and E.  These settings (I think) were all made with reference to Furuno 585 sounders and depths up to 100m.  Sorry it is not very clear as not all of the lines on the table are visible.

Thanks for that mate and great to see your happy with our settings. I will say Ryan Thipthorp (Oceanside Owner) has refined these settings to be his favourite on recreational Furuno units and we now use/recommend the same settings.

As for the display colours, always use max so 64.

Cheers
