Sounder settings and bottom discrimination

Hi, I know how to use my sounder to find/see fish but what I really want to know is how do you tell the difference in different bottom. I know harder bottom will be thicker red and all that but how do you know what bottom is good for coral or what does mud look like? I’m more interested in setting cray pots in a bit deeper water about 20 - 30 fathoms. Also what settings do you use for each bottom? Sorry for all the questions, if you have photos that would be awesome.
thanks

Has plenty of tips on reading the bottom. I found looking at the screenshots, workng out what I think they are showing and then reading John’s description very valuable. John is based in WA so it has a good local flavour. Here is an article from John that may also help you out
