south coast jigging

Went out on saturday with mates Ryan and Charlie for a jig. the mission for the day was to just take jigs with no bait allowed and target sambos or kingys a few km ofshore. the plan worked sort of, we got both kings and sambos but also ended up with a big bag of demersals and the release weight working overtime to drop fish back down. fished depths from 30-70m and would of been lucky to be 6km from the boat launch spot.

tally for the day all on jigs was 20-30 rat kingys, 5 rat sambos, 1 dhuie, 2 nannys, 1 big queeny, 3 harlequin fish, 10 or so breaksea cod, well over 50 skippy, a few bonito, 1 huge bronzie that we got boatside after having a sambo sharked, heaps of random reef fish and a few absolute smokings thown in to the mix. we all used pe2 setups for the day with myself and ryan running jigging master pe2 overhead setups and charlie on spin. jigs we used where mostly FCL SLZ's, Duel allie flash, current zeek and peggy, damiki backdrops and a few others

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

the fallings loads up ok, its really a 40-50lb rod. ive ran up to 15kg drag on it easily before but it does load up quick before getting solid down the bottom

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Gota love Albany, think I fished the same area a couple of months ago. Goes from 70m up to 18, & back down to 80 in about a 300m drift. Was only 20km from emu point ramp.

yeah there is some crazy ground down there. one of the lumps we got a lot of fish off went from 70m up to 44m. heaps of drop offs that go from 20 to over 60 within a few hundred meters of the rocks. we beached launched and all up for the day would of traveled under 20km while moving spots a lot
