I have the RA 1100 Sparid too, they are a popular gun and seem pretty good for my limmited knowledge... I have replaced/ upgraded the shooting line with Dyneema cord and had tried using twin 16mm rubber, and at the moment a single 20mm rubber... they are well balanced, track well, good quality 7mm spear and slightly negatively boyant when loaded and positively boyant when fired... I had a rare problem with the trigger mechanism and when I took it to the shop where I boughtg it, they sent it away and the trigger mechanism was replaced quickly with no dramas so I can't complain about their customer care too. my next gun will be longer so make sure you will be happy with a 1000 as 1100 is as short as I would go for where I fish....

Hoestly out of all the guns out there they would be one of the LAST I would buy.
Personally if I was buying a gun now I would be looking at a Aimrite, they are not cheap but are the best on the market. Anyway regardless of what you choose adreno has a spearfishing sale on currently. As with fishing gear the guns are as dependant on your budget as they are on the qualtiy you want.
In a similar budget to the RA look at beuchat, undersea, pelaj or freedivers
Hope this is of some help.

I do a bit in shallow water
I do a bit in shallow water with a RA Tuna 1100 and I feel it is well balanced and versatile. Can still get it around structure but has enough length to have a ping at a distance. I'd say go the 1100 but with twin rubbers, will give you a bit of extra punch when you need.

Try the Freedivers Evo
I have a Freedivers Evo and have had no problems with it, did do the upgrade myself to twin 16mm rubbers. It comes with a 7mm spear instead of the 6.6mm for the RA, this gives the spear a bit more weight behind it to cope for larger fish if they do pass your path.
I also have a longer RA Tuna, with a 7.5mm spear, for slightly bigger open water spearing.
If you are just going to use it for mainly reef work, try and go for a shorter gun, say 90 or 100cm, it works a lot better in confined spaces, and tracks quicker.

Another vote for freedivers,
Another vote for freedivers, got 3 of em, a 0.9, a 1.0 and a 1.3 . . . Come check them out if you want mate. Might be able to get them cheaper than Adreno too, Adam got his new gun from the same dude.
