Spearo Mission 11/8/11
Went for a spear with Tim today, exploring new areas south of town. Turned out to be quiet a nice morning weather wise until it blew up around lunch time, only real down fall was the green snot chilled water that we had to dive in. Finding some likely ground we spooked most fish we saw first up for the fact we were face to face with them before we got a chance to pull the trigger. We tried a bit shallower in and found some great ground, I speared an approx 15kg ++ mackie on my short gun which I almost stoned, but not enough to stop him tearing off. (spewing) Getting back to the boat, I found Tim with a dilemma, he had found the smallest hole with a good bluebone and decent trout wedged in so tight that shooting and retrieving them was going to be extremely difficult. I had one shot but got bounced by the rock, Tim went around the back and managed to find another minature crack that proved more likely. Unfortunately he wasn't able to pull off the double shot (which was more than truly possible) but still managed to get a 55cm bluey that got a bit beaten up on the way out.
Heading back Tim wanted one more dive at 'Dinner Rock', his favourite location for picking up that tea-rout fall back option. Of course it lived up to his name and he facialised a nice 58cm fish on his 3 visit to the bombie.
After that we looked for some new soft plastic ground, plenty of promise but no action. Going to head back there soon to investigate further, stay tuned. :)
Cheers,
Adam

Nice work fellas
Love the spear through the gob, must have come over and said hello.........big mistake. Trout are too inquisitive.

it was actually one of the more timid trout I've seen but only offered my a head on shot so in the gob, out the gut with no flesh damage.
Getting the double header was a very real possibility, the trout and bluebone were so tight in this awkward hole I'm amazed they had room to even move. Anyway it was good to find some new good looking ground for clearer waters.

Very nice feed, well done
Very nice feed, well done lads. That first photo shows some awesome conditions...
I am visiting Exy for the first time for 2 days on the 22nd and 23rd.. I have been trying to figure out where I am allowed to spear from the shore as I am not taking my boat but I get the impression that spear fishing is genaraly not allowed from shore... If you know of any spots where I could try between exy and coral and wouldn't mind telling me I would be very greatfull.... or by any small chance you are going for a dive and need a decky on either of those days then I am your man!!!

wetty top and boardies Paul,
wetty top and boardies Paul, 22C is a little chilly after a few hours in just a rashie.
Winta I won't be in town when you're here but all spearing is banned between Winderabandi and Tantabiddi. The Gulf is about the only place without some sort of spearing restriction. You can shore spear there but will need to swim at least a few hundred metres offshore so watch the tides as the current can push you along pretty quickly. Also vis is pretty lousy but good luck.

Ah no worries Tim.... Worth a cheeky ask anyway.... Thanks for the info on the shore spearing, thats about what I had figured... I have booked onto the Mahi Mahi II for a line fishing sesh on the 24th so will atleast get a good look out then (fingers crossed for good conditions)... otherwise I will just have to shoot with the camera instead...!
