Spelling and grammar
I (and i'm sure many others) notice a fair amount of spelling and grammar mistakes on the site, and I generally don't correct anyone as i'm not sure whether correcting people is welcome or will just make me look like a smart ass. Personally I think of it like having food in your teeth, i'd much rather someone point it out than let me walk around all day without knowing because they're afraid i'll be embarrassed or something. I know sometimes it's just typos or using shorthand (i use 'ur' alot instead of you're, etc) but there's also alot of plain wrong spelling or using the wrong word.
Things like to and too, there their and they're, where were and we're, and the old classics like trawling and trolling...
Don't know if getting spellcheck on the site is feasible. It's only my opinion but I reckon there's no reason anyone wouldn't want to improve their spelling and grammar.

I like the variety of spelling and grammar on the site as it;
1) makes me feel smarter from time to time
2) helps me determine whether it is worth reading on quite early in a long post
3) helps me identify the approximate age of the poster

And its not the odd mistake or "variation", it can be something as easy as hitting "return/enter" on a new sentence that simply makes it readable.

I can't believe I writing this, but I think I agree, Daisy. I'm a bit of a self-confessed grammar Nazi, but there is a time and a place. If the error is changing the meaning of the post, sure, it could be better. However, if we all know what the person is getting at, conversations on a social website are probably 'gently exempt' from the need for such scrutiny. (In saying that, I will appologise for times when I do either correct someone or stuff things up, myself. Please note the correct use of the last comma in the previous sentence - without it, the meaning changes considerably!!)

The fishing reports , questions and anything else fishing related get a few comments but bugger all compared to the whinging and ranting...... I tend to disagree with people having to put up with the scrutiny from others who 'get a kick' out of trying to correct the spelling and grammar of grown men whom they don't know. Sure, if it's your mate and he gets something wrong you can tell him that he's a idiot, but no need to do it in a public forum. I know that sometimes when I write posts on here I don't use the highest echelon of diction, I'm on here to try and get away from study and work! So let's just give everyone a break, who doesn't make mistakes?!
But as for 'pelagicyachts' I would revaluate your rationale behind determining the age of users by their spelling and grammar. I assume by this that you believe the greater number of mistakes implies a 'young' person? I would like to think that I have an adequate understanding of the English language and how to use it, and I would guess that I am a lot younger than you will think.

You can handle the odd spelling errors, typos happen, the txt speak is annoying but please for the love of god can we atleast spell the destinations correct.

Spelling it wrong is not a lack of education (it was never taught to any of us at school how to spell the islands), but rather pure laziness. If you don't know how to spell the place - look it up.

I must agree in part with the spelling. It does detract from any interest in continuing to read the article that is posted.
I don't think the majority have a problem with the occassional spelling mistake (hey, we are all guilty of that).

I'm a bit on both sides of the fence on this one but I'm curious to know how many mistakes are made simply because people don't have a quick proof-read before clicking save. Another minute to add a comma, correct some obvious spelling mistakes etc, can make a post far more enjoyable to read. Well it would for me anyway.

Use word and then copy into forum.
My brain works just fine fingers don't always match what I am thinking. Second would you prefer me to post or be self conscious of my spelling. Personally I would prefer your ideas and the challenge of what some people are writing. Adds to the interest.

When the fish learn to read and write I will consider worrying about Spelling and Grammar, until then who gives a shit.
Lets continue to say what needs to be said without worrying if the exclamation mark is in the correct space in the sentance, afterall this is about what we all enjoy, FISHING.
