State under water

just so you guys in the west know and youll prolly see it on the news but we over in qld are being inundated with water......we have a wall of water coming down the brisbane river and coupled with a high tide this arvo we will be lucky to come through unscathed..... the cbd has been evacuated as well a lot of low lying areas around brisbane......im at work for the moment and dont know if i can get home at this point in time......i might be sleepin in my car along with a lot of other people.......it is the worst floods since 1974 and we arent over the worst of it yet

there is rain predicted for the next few days....it hasnt stopped for the last 2 weeks and we also have some of the biggest tides on record for the bris river ... so we will see what becomes of it.........i am hoping we dont get too much damage or loss of life...75% of the state is under water or has been devestated by water.....

keep us in your thoughts and wish us luck!!!!!

our offices on the east coast

Tue, 2011-01-11 14:01

our offices on the east coast in Brisbane are without phones, hardly any mobiles working as well, with towers out. Office staff all sent home already and  now predictions of 6700 home will be flooded!

This kind of natural event can break a state and put us back 10 years. The infrstucture damage will be hundreds of billions. Just the mining industry has $2billion in project work now under water, ships backing up off the coast as no ore or coal is going out.

Stuff the bloody NATIONAL BROADBAND NETWORK.... HOW ABOUT A NATIONAL DAMS AND FLOOD PROTECTION NETWORK,

Last major dam project was after the 1974 floods, with 80% of all dams in the East Coast no0w over 40 years old and some even 60 years old and full of sediment.

Time to stick the Greens and weirdos into a raft and send them out to sea AND start building dams again and protecting the land.

once this disaster is over, they will be in need of resources more than anything, more than financial aid.

To help in repairing infrastructure, housing, roads and so on

Tradies like electricians, grano workers, carpenters etc..

Tragic sight.

Unbelievable

Tue, 2011-01-11 15:48

Unbelievable stuff, can't believe that video with the cars getting washed away, just insane.  Global warming anyone?  Really hope those missing make it out ok.

Looks like the west isn't safe either.  Carnavon's still fixing itself, derby and the kununnurra are looking like there getting a heap and now theres a cyclone on the way:  (Cat 2 so far off the coast means its going to be SOLID if it makes land)

Crazy place Australia, oh and don't forget bushfires in the south west.

Thinking of you

Tue, 2011-01-11 15:55

Thinking of you guys during these tough times.

Few guys on our car forum have allready planned a big charity car cruise. Gold coin donation minimum.

Allready have 100+ cars. Hoping to get around 300+ cars and most people will give $50+

Thoughts

Tue, 2011-01-11 17:33

My thoughts are with them over there, it was bad enough here in Carnarvon but they are really copping it. The same goes for the fire victims down south, at least we had a home to come back to, some of those poor buggers don't even know if theirs still stands or if their pets are still alive.

Keeping the fingers crossed with the cyclone forming tomorrow, hoping there is no more rain in the Gascoyne river basin because it will come straight down stream in a rush.

I can't believe the pictures on the news.  I'm watching ABC 24 at the moment and just can't imagine that happening anywhere.  I really hope no more lives are lost.  Stay safe Vander72.  Just remember - possessions can be replaced - lives can't be.

Its unbelievable stuff.. didnt really understand how bad it was until hearing and reading about what happened yesterday. The weather has just been crazy all over Australia the last 6 months. Hopefully everyone effected can get through the next few days unscathed. GOOD LUCK.

all 5 states on the mainland have been affected by floods this summer. up north in the kimbereley one town (cant remember the name) had 460 ml's in one night so its all under water up there

but what shines out is community spirit. people have lost everything and yet they were still donating during that telethon because there neighbours wouldnt take money directly.

got this email the other

Wed, 2011-01-12 07:45

got this email the other day.

THE TOP EIGHT COUNTRIES THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT GAVE YOUR TAX DOLLARS TO IN  2010-2011

Indonesia $458,700.00 million

Papua New Guinea $457,200,00 million

Solomon Islands $225,700.00 million

Afghanistan $123,100.00 million

Vietnam $119,800.00 million

Philippines $118,100.00 million

East Timor $102,700.00 million

Cambodia $64,200.00 million

TOTAL = $ 1,669,000,000.00  -  given away in 52 weeks

..but wait there’s more.

·         Australia provides approximately 150,000 tonnes of food aid every year—about $65 million—to Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Sudan and Chad
·
·         In 2005 John Howard committed Australia to double Australian aid to about $4 billion a year by 2010
·
·         In 2010-2011 the Australian Government plans to spend almost $4.4 billion on development assistance
·
·         In 2008 the Australian community contributed $812.19million to non-government organisations

And now Gillard will give $500,000,000.00 for Indonesia’s Islamic schools
which are largely moderate in outlook but there have been pockets of radicalism that
have produced terrorists in Indonesia, most notably the cleric Abu Bakar Bashir’s school in Ngruki, central Java, where some of the Bali bombers studied.

SO….. Ask your local member  how come 2010 Queensland flood victims get $1 million  ?

which government do you think

Wed, 2011-01-12 09:09

which government do you think will be providing hospital coverage, rebuilding schools, roads bridges.  providing defence support, doctors, search and rescue.  Pull your head out of your asses people, this is a great country and the government is doing a shit load. Take it from someone who is over hear.  There are so many hidden costs to this flood and who do you think is footing the bill.  Weather you like the pm or not stop bagging out what you think is or is not going on.  Cant fault the help being provided in the area and yess most of it funded by the taxpayer

australia is the best country in the world!  Times like this justify that even more, everyone pulls together

looking at this we can see the cyclones on both the east and west coast coming in to bash the country.

The one off New Caledonia will weaken to a tropical low before it comes close to us, but will be bad news for a soaked and wet East Coast!
