I'm headed there on Friday for 7 days, my old man was there late Nov and said they were only landing about a 1/4 of the fish hooked due to sharks.

I think Dad discussed that

I think Dad discussed that with Paul also... he had me do some research and I don't think it's a very suitable solution. (I welcome input from others here if you believe what I say to be incorrect!! I'm just going off what I've been reading around the web.)

A) It only has an EFFECTIVE operating range of ~8m... so doesn't give you a much of a buffer.
B) There is still some conjecture with regard to the effect is has on sharks outside the effective operating range. Some researchers believe that outside the effective operating range it may actually attract sharks due to the subtle effects actually peaking the sharks curiosity.
C) Supposedly proven to be significantly less effective when the sharks are excited by blood/chum in the water (so potentially if other fishers near by are getting sharked it could lessen the effectiveness of the shield).

I think there were a few other things that kind of put me off... but they were the big things. In the end I couldn't justify the expense given the feedback I'd found.

brick on a rope

Mon, 2013-02-11 17:28

That sound about right guys the sharks have been pretty bad the last few years i watch an old fella with a half brick on a rope last time using that when they get close it seemed to work its basic but effective might have to try that out might increase the chances of landing
