Stella 10000sw 2011 model- Advice

Hi all,

After some advice. Looking at 2nd hand mint condition Stella 10000sw to take to the Montebellos next year. Can I use it down here for bottom bouncing for dhu's,baldy's etc also? The ratio is 5.8:1.

Would I be better off with the 8000sw with ratio 4.9:1 ? Don't want to spend that much money on a reel if it's not suited .

cheers in advance.

You can but it will be harder to use with such a high gear raio. I have one I bought for popping and have used it bottom bashing as well. It works but is harder work. The 8000pg will be better or the new SW Saragosa 10000 which is a lower gear reel as well.

I just got back from the Monties and I took a stella SW 10000
used it for popping which it is fantastic. (jigged with shimano 5000....took two of these)

I never use the stella 10000 in the metro area. generally I jig but even when bottom bouncing for dhus I use a smaller reel. I've used the 10000 in deeper waters Coral bay 100m but to tell you the truth it's a pain in the ass.

only go the stella 10000SW if you want it for popping/stickbaiting (or switchbaiting sails/small blacks... :)

I love the reel ...prob will never buy better but unless you want one for the dedicated above then look for something more suited....ie lower ratio.

If you are only jigging bottom bouncing (both monties and metro) even the 8000 which is ofcourse better suited these uses is overkill. (8000 in the Monties is certainly fine though)

I jigged with a 5000 in the Monties in 100m and was fantastic. metro Im generally in 50-70 so the 5000 reel is the best.

hope I've helped

10,000 is a very specific popping reel. It is brilliant for this job, but rubbish for everything else. I loved mine for popping and stickbaiting, but it was hopeless to jig with and replaced it with a 8000PG.

If I go popping again, I will get another 10,000.

Just remember with the 2008 model 8000 Stella's there are two types. The standard and pg. The standard is still high gear like the 10000 so don't get caught out.

Cheers for that. Could I use my bluewater ugly stick 15-24kg 7 ft for popping and stickbaits aswell as bottom bashing?

The standard 8000 is in

The standard 8000 is in between the PG and the 10,000 (HG). A bt of an alrounder, best option if you only wont 1 reel to do both.
