Swan Reach fishing questions
Submitted by 420casts on Mon, 2015-08-03 13:41
Upon staying in Adelaide for the next few weeks, I'll be making a trip to Swan Reach for a few days. We have basic rods and tackle to set up simple paternoster rigs etc. And shrimp traps for bait. I'm trying to find out if soft plastics are worth a go, I have a couple snaggy spots close to shore to bait up in, I want to really see if the swan river techniques I have learnt over the years will work here. Also would a running sinker down to a medium sized hook with a fresh prawn work well, or maybe too snaggy ? Cheers

Fresh live shrimp work really well
Plenty of callop near the ferry crossing but carp and tench are a bloody pest - supposed to now hold some large cod so spinner baits may be the go

Meant to add - best bait for your shrimp traps
Road kill - preferably rabbit or roo, yeah I know it smells a bit but hell does it work great !

Shrimps are hard to find in
Shrimps are hard to find in the cooler months. Best bet is to set the trap in deep water where there are lots of tree roots.
A buoyant lure will more snag proof or even a spinnerbait. Something a bit noisy will be best, as the water may be quite dirty.
good luck
