swan river
After becoming an unemployed on tuesday i decided to make the most of my free time and go fishing for the next couple days.
so on wednesday i got my rods and bait sorted and got the gf to drop me at the canning bridge on her way to uni. first out was a lure and walking underneath the bridge casting at pylons with no joy. after about 30mins i went to the side and somehow managed to foul hook a hardyhead straight on the hook that went. within seconds something took it but spat it out, spent a bit more time without any more bites, so off to the jetty, first cast hooked on but lost a sizeable fish, second cast brought in a 22cm blackie undersize but at least they are around, for the next 2 hours i was getting bites but just couldnt hook them. landed another 2 grunter and 3 blowies
on thursday i woke up nice and early until i saw the rain and back to bed for a few more hours. at 1030 managed to get up and head to the windan bridge, spent about 45mins without even a sniff until i headed to the other side. first cast saw a 28cm bream, not massive but my biggest so far. from then on I got good bites every cast but had trouble hooking them again, managed to get 4 undersize (18cm-22cm) before they went off bite. also tried the lure again without luck. so went to back to the otherside walking up and down the banks/jetties/walls. no decent bites so tried under the bridge again and got a few good bites before bringing up 24cm bream..undersize but good fight. managed to get another 3 undersize before the woman came to take me away.
this morning i wanted another crack at the canning bridge, straight to the jetty and could only get a couple of blowies. walked along the coast cast lures and baits without a nibble then headed back to the jetty. when i got there noticed a class of about 15 kids fishing it only getting blowies. tried it for a bit until decided to go back to the other side and down a little near the other little jetty there, getting BIG bites every cast again had trouble hooking, but the first few i did hook into bit through my line, not happy and getting fustrated when the gf rocked up to get me at 1015am...used the one more cast line...lucky that cast got me a 24cm bream. still undersize but she let me have another!! cast out, wound in a bit, gave lots of slack then noticed my line running, set the hooks in at the right time and i was on!! was stoked to see my first river tailor it the sand, 34cm.
so over the last 3 days did 12 hours fishing for only 2 sized fish..a pb 28cm blackie and my first river tailor. thinking about going back there tonight.

bushmans gives it a quite strong sweet flavour, little to much for my liking, with fish that is, also smoke my own baby back ribs, bushman blend works well with those though.
