Tachometer and trim gauges not working
Submitted by crabking on Sat, 2018-04-14 08:21
Hi tech gurus - 96 Etec 75 - my trim/tilt gauge and taco are not working properly - taco is only going up to about 1500pm and trim has stopped working - should I be looking for an electrical issue there is power to both as the light is working in both - or is there a mechanical possibility? -Thanks in advance

Did they make Etecs in
Did they make Etecs in 96?
Hopefully you havent been sold a Ficht with an Etec sticker applied
The lights in the gauge are completely seperate normally.
If you look at the back you'll likely see a small wire with an LED on (or bulb if its 1996 ) which runs straight off the key/lighting circuit.
First thing Id go looking for a lose plug in the loom somewhere, if both stopped at the same time it will likely be either that or an earth corroded/broken etc
Of course I am assuming that the engine IS going past 1500rpm?
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

Agree with above
yep if they all stopped working at the same time the first thing to start looking at would be bad connections earth etc.

Check the batteries
Check the batteries charging. Had a issue with similar symptoms. Was the rectifier.
