Tailor/mullaway help
Submitted by Spud72 on Wed, 2015-05-20 21:51
Hi guys I'm heading north of two rocks tomorrow for my third go at mullaway and tailor and was after some advise regarding rigs and baits ect. Iv yet to get around to buying a beach set up so I'll be sticking with my Stella 4000 on a 9 foot rod with 25 pound braid for now but would like some suggestions on a setup under maybe 250-300 bucks before my Stella gets trashed on the beach and is mono or braid the go? Bait runner a good idea?
cheers
brad....
also spot available if anyone is interested

I can recommend the pflueger
I can recommend the pflueger salt 80 for an affordable beach reel. Slightly heavy but has been indestructible so far. Around $160 I think, I prefer them over the penn spinfishers.

Beach fishingI
hey spud,
in terms of rigs running sinker or paternoster with snell hooks or gangs, nothing fancy just but keep terminal to a minimal and as small as you can get away with.
in terms of a setup if you only want one seriously look at a penn prevail surf 13ft with a 1200 oc bait runner loaded up with 20/30pd braid or mono. will set you back a bit more than budget unless you pick up second hand but this will haul up anything a usual beach throws at you. I swear by bait runners if you want to set and forget (drink piss) as I do while waiting for a fish. Otherwise a pflueger salt reel (as above) with a crank rod (12 ft and 20pd) will do the trick under budget.
good luck

Hi spud a good combo for not
Hi spud a good combo for not much money is the $99 fin nor biscayne 80 with air strike 13' combo. Not bad. If u really want just keep the reel because I think it's a beauty and could handle anything and grab a nice rod.

2 rocks
Hey dude, I fish off the marina at two rocks and get tailor 90% of the time especially during the months ending in "ber" averaging 45cm the bigger ones were on the 60cm mark
the rig:
on your main line put a sleeve for a glow stick then tie a 50lb swivel than 40cm of 30lb mono.
then thread on the egg float and put another 50lb swivel at the end so the float can slide 40 cm (this way its easier to cast with the weight near the end of your line and acts as a float stop also)
then tie another 40 cm of 30lb mono on then add gang hooks.
Like this
--------===-○○-------(0)----○○-------------¿¿¿
=== glow stick sleeve
---- main line
○○ swivel
(0) float
¿¿¿ gang hooks
you can add wire trace or treble hooks but it never made a difference for me.
you dont need any weight itll sink by itself. (unless the birds are fast enough)
stuff your float with burley put the mullie on gang.
get there around 4pm set up under or a couple meters to the left of starboard light on the point take 2kg mulies in a chilly bin or salted ones and no chilly bin. cast straight out (north) slide your glow stick in the sleeve and snap around dark hang til 9.30pm
Thats my favourite spot in perth region. only time its not good is when the seaweeds in. keep your set up itll be fine the most tailor ive caught out there was on a $50 jarvis combo cheap and nasty but done the job. incoming tide and around full moon can be an awesome night especially with the water choppy just watch your glow stick disappear under water then its on! and for a surf rod get starlo jungle stix 12 foot worth its weight in gold
any problems in my life are due to not fishing enough.
