Is there fishing classes for kids?
Submitted by fisharoo on Thu, 2013-02-28 18:01
Hey fellas, basically I've had it with my missus signing up my kids to all these stuff on my one day off. Tennis, swimming, piano, guitar. Every second week I have to take the kids to all these things, I don't mind except I'm stuck with all these people( mostly mums) for the whole day talking about cup cakes and such...
As fishing is apparently ' Australia's most popular recreational acivity' , is there any fishing lessons for my kids to attend at some fishing club weekly? Heck, I'm paying for all these other things I might as well pay for something that I enjoy doing with my kids, and hanging out with fellow fishos and talk crap about fishing for a couple of hours.
Cheers

you could always teach them
yourself roo. Specify a day to the missus and head down to a nearby jetty/beach. I'm looking at doing the same thing with my kid if you're north of river. Sometimes recfishwest run clinics for kids -check website.
Fishin for a feed and fun.

It's gotto be classes
Should have realized that my missus hates fishing before I married her 10 years ago, well what's done is done:). Every fishing session I have becomes a big 'i owe you'. So going to classes weekly I guess voids that.
Not to mention at the moment my brother just flew out of Perth today to exmouth to fish on strike and peak this weekend and I was supposed to go.........:( she reckons that after going to kalbarri during the Aussie day weekend, going on this one is tooooo much fishing.

Just have to tell the Mrs you
Just have to tell the Mrs you want to teach the youngens to fish .. as long as you make it fun they'll be hassling you forever .. however , there's nothing wrong with talking about hot moist muffins aka ( cupcakes ) with other mums IMO ..

Brainwashing
My kids are being brainwashed I think. My 5 year old boy said to me the other day ' why do you like fishing daddy? Fishing is boring.'

Club
Most metro fishing clubs have a junior division. Try the surf casting and angling club for land based or the maac for more boat orientated stuff

Thanks fellas
Will give the recfishwest a look.
Breamslayer, you should try and organize something, lots to learn about fishing. I've been fishing since I was 5 and I'm still learning.

The Fishing School

Peter at the Fishing School is a top bloke who knows his stuff. He teaches classes to school groups starting with knots and components, then casting lessons on the oval then out for fishing trips on the river or the moles/coast. Dunno if he does one on one but I cant see why not if the price was right.
He is also a butcher by trade and teaches fish filleting classes at tafe etc.
