I need to back up my GPS waypoints, trails, and settings!!!
Don't give up on your unit just yet, an IT guru may be able to recover the data from the GPS memory - no idea where to start from but looking for data recovery people may be a good start - have seen some people have good success with computers and laptops - worth a try.
very expensive, upfront charge whether they get it or not.
From memory it was $500-$1000 up front just to look at it and that was just a computer hard drive.
Best bet is maybe you find its only a minor part of the unit thats failed.
Happened with mine last year, luckily I had photographed the marks pages before so still had some but at the end of the day its not the end of the world.
i back up all my coordinates on Navionicsi which is loaded on both my iPad and mobile. I have a Raymarine which syncs with my mobile devices and still need to see how I can transfer info between the two devices. I also have a chart of the local waters in my study with numbered pins indicating my favourite spots. Each number is recorded with the coordinates and sizes and photos of the (larger) fish caught there. It may sound like overkill, but what can I do when not fishing?
I have a Lowrance GPS. There is a function in one of the menus to copy all data (including waypoints) to the SD card, which you can then remove, insert into your computer and copy to disk. I try and do this at least every 6 months.

Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.
