todays fishn on the 5
howdy all
I took my ole man and son for a fish on the 5 today. It was perfect conditions to catch a feed. we ended up with a variety of fish today, it started of with heaps of wrasse which my old man wanted to keep, i said no pop put em back we will be on to something soon as i had a good berly trail happening. it wasnt long before the skippy arrived which kept him busy' then a few 410, 430mm snapper both released,a couple of undersized black arse, we ended up with a 33cm one which i reluctantly kept for him even though it was sized, if it was just me and my son i would have released it, got a rat sambo, eagle ray and then this big lipped thing i didnt know what it was i think some sort or morwong with the rubery lips it had,but there was no way dad was gonna put it back he reckons it will taste good it was 585mm long any help about the id of this fish would be great please. then on the way home 8kms from land i lost the steering to my boat, so while i was having a look at it pop was chucking in a line and was onto some nice whiting. i had to disconnect cable from motor and my son steered it home from the motor, i think it might be my helm as the cable was coming in and out from the helm but was not turning the motor, any way had a good morning with my dad which i only see about once a year hence him wanting to keep everything LOL he is from the country and doesnt get to fish that often.
cheers

Nice mixed bag
Nice mixed bag mate. At least you got in safe, i have had to steer with the tiller to get back in as well. The unknown fish is a Gold Spot Sweetlip. Ive never eaten one but my mate likes them .

Completely agree Kinga
this has come up plenty of times and somethings should just be left out of reports.
If you don't know the ID how do you know if it's size/within you bag limit etc.

Fishing with your Dad
Dakka,
Good to see you had some quality time fishing with your Dad, hopefully the next time will be just as good and even better and a lot sooner, we never know when our time is up, well done. Treasure these special times. Remember "Life is not about how many breaths you take, but how many moments take your breath away". If you ever get up to Kalbarri, give me a yell, I would be pleased to take you and your Dad outb for a fish.
Cheers

Should have kept the black
Should have kept the black and white fish, Moonlighter are probably equal or better eating than most of the catch you kept
