Tow vehicle for 1500-1800 kg trailcraft

 G'day guys

Thinking of doing a bit of an upgrade, Currently towing the 5.8m tTrailblazer with a vz wagon, and work has turned into a city commute. Round town I'm looking at 12l/100 and towing is around 18/19l / 100kms.

Plan is to save on fuel by buying a bike for commute then get a tow vehicle for the boat and when it's raining.

Budget is between 10-15k for the vehicle, doesn't need to be a 4wd.

I have been thinking of vehicle auctions? Anybody bought a auction car? Can you test drive them? Seen a couple of Western power plated utes ford/Holden with 95k, are tthere deals to be got?

I'm looking at the moment as well in a similar price range since my 60series died... probably closer to 15 grand and a sedan.

Got a 525 coraline so a bit lighter. If you are looking at a commodore ute check the tow weights they dropped them to 1600kg braked with the VE

Hi Josh thought I would just throw it out there, I will be selling my 95 GQ patrol soon, it tows my 5.7 westerberg around the city no probs and is mechanically sound with alot of fruit. I am not sure what they are worth these days but it will definately be under 9k, might save you some coin as its well below your budget

pm me if your interested and I can send some photos etc and get back with a price but  its the one in my avatar pic

 Definitely can't test drive

Definitely can't test drive auction cars & usually can't start them. I won't even consider a car I can't test drive so I reckon auctions are best avoided. Lots of patrols & cruisers available for that money, reckon that'd be your best option & it shouldn't be too hard to find a good one if you know what to look for or have a 4b savvy mate that can go looking with you.

Auctions are good place to

Auctions are good place to buy if your savvy. Only buy cars with full service history and relatively low K's, in good condition and you'll generally be fine. Small chance of getting a lemon but no different from buying anywhere else!

Bought my VZ Belina V8 at auction over the net (interstate) without even seeing the car (apart from photos). Was one of the final listings on the day and the dealers had spent all their cash/gone home. My bid was the third bid and the last, at 7 grand under retail (at the time) I figured I couldn't go wrong - even if I had to rebuild the motor I would've still been ahead. 160,000 ks later I've only replaced the radiator, water pump and alternator apart from general servicing/brake pads etc. sometimes you win em!!
