towing boat to Kununurra - protection

Guys,

i'm after a bit of advice...i will be towing my 5m quinnie to Kununurra in a coupla weeks. Its a dark blue painted hull. My concern is the paint getting chipped from stones etc. Does anyone know of a product on the market like a heatshrink/wrap plastic i can put over the paint work to protect it??  Any suggestions will be appreciated...

yeh these guys tow $80k barra boats on the dirt

pretty much every weekend so its tried and true. big flappers work to an extent but the rocks will still bounce back up off the road. For a temporary thing you could hang the shade cloth from the bow rail to the trailer, doubled up with some big cable ties or something. Just a thought!!

Shade cloth

Tie some shadecloth on to your back bumper and use occy straps to hook it to your trailer just in front of the mud guards so there is no drag while moving and any stones are deflected back down to the road. The occy straps allow it to stay secure while turning etc.

i would have said the same as barneyboy. i have seen it done on quite a few trailers. wouldnt take much to do. a few meters of 25 x 25 galv tube and a bit of welding.

Boat bra or stoneguard

Thu, 2010-09-02 23:34

PJAY here's a link to give you a couple of ideas.. Boat Protection

As a temporary measure you could tie a tarp over the front of the boat like a bra Wink

or make a temp stoneguard like barneyboy and Russ (FF) have said. Guy at work made a stoneguard for his camper trailer and has taken it over 1,000kms of gravel tracks and said he has only got a couple of chips on the side.

Another thing people have setup is a full length rubber "mud flap" hanging off the rear bumber. Not sure how effective tho.

Failing the above wrap it in bubble wrap and if you keep hearing a popping sound you know the stones are getting close to the paintwork so slow down. Laughing

In all honesty............ I AM JEALOUS of your relocation.

Good Luck with the move and looking forward to the reports and pics.

cheaper alternative is cable

cheaper alternative is cable tie shade cloth to the bow rail from the front for all the length down the side then cable tie the bottom to the trailer rail,
