2500kg
2500kg is the max for the car. If the towbar isnt a heavy duty one it could be much lower down to say 1200kg for a bog standard one.
There is usually a sticker or stamp on the towbar that will tell you the rating. Being a bit older this may not be there anymore.
If you cant find the rating on the bar you may have to take it to a tow bar dealer and they should be able to tell you the rating from the design.

It may also be worth looking
It may also be worth looking into the ruling on towing as well if you are going to do this regularly. I went down this road myself when I had a trailer built some years back. Rules may have changed by now .It used to read that any trailer that was licensed to carry over 2000kg had to be fitted with brake away brakes. Then the towing weight was reduced again pending on the push down pressure on the tow ball.Cheers

Dont have an accident
your insurance company will drop you like a fat chick at the dance and you'll be left holding the can - its too much weight for your car if you are towing 3T.
You need a landy or an f truck.

3tonne,thats one heavy old
3tonne,thats one heavy old boat, as others have said ,bit heavy for the car, if you were going to upgrade the 4x4 the navara dx has a 3t towing rating it may not go as fast as some of the beefy 4x4's but it will get you there, we load our 23ft glass boat up a fair bit i would say close to the 3t when we go away up north and stil get about 5 to 6 km to the ltr traveling at 90 plus , just my thoughts

I believe it has a lot to do
I believe it has a lot to do with 1.5 the weight of the car and trailer brakes as towing capacity?
There needs to be some major clarification and education on this as there must be more than one persond riving around uninsured without knowing it?

I believe anything over 750
I believe anything over 750 kgs must have a braked trailer?
Main roads or DPI must have more info on this?
It could be worth an article with links to further info?
Dont forget your tyres? What capacity do they have? Expiry dates?
At the end of the day aquiring your information from the internet isnt going to carry weight when the insurance company is looking for legal avenue out.
You need to clarify with DPI

Education needs to be sent out with licence info on this

tow weights
best do some home work with DPI and your vehicle, its fine to say my vehicle is rated to tow 3 tonne but peace of mind would be that if your boat is 3 tonne your car should be a similar weight on the bitumen because if your boat decides to go bush on a long trip or even down the freeway to the ramp the only thing stopping it is the vehicle towing it, 3 tonne of boat versus controlled by 1.5 tonne of car, guess whats going to happen. The east coast is way ahead of controlling vehicle tow limits and WA needs to catch up, i would suggest 100 series . 3 tonne on the road

96 Paj
Is only licensed to tow 2.5 tonne.
Have a look at Redbook.com.au. It give the specs for all cars.
Most 4x4 today are all rated to 3 tonne and the crusier and pootrol are 3.5 tonne.
Stay away from the the V8 petrol crusier is you want to tow heavy loads. I had one and pulling 2.5 tonne I was getting 36l/100. I only did that once...Now the V8 twin turbo diesel crusier I have now..well thats another story
Twin turbo..V8 diesel..Ohh what a feeling!!
