Trailer brakes

Hello all,
I`ve just changed the brake pads on my trailer. Driving today, its grinding a bit too much, so a couple of questions spring to mind:
1. How much does the tensioning nut at the front of the draw bar need to be adjusted?
2. The result of 1. will determine the amount the piston will move before pushing on the brake lever.
3. There is a small handle near the calliper. How much free play should there be?
I know that there should be a bit of grinding on wheel rotation but when you can hear it whilst driving, I think thats abnormal.
Regards
Chris
