Transducer vandalism

I went to take the boat out last Tuesday and was greeted by the somewhat anger-provoking sight below.  Someone has cut my transducer cable.  I first thought that they were perhaps trying to steal the transducer and couldn’t remove it/got spooked, but why would you cut the cable in two places?  The amount of cable left on the transducer end is quite short, so I’m not sure there is enough left to splice it back together?  It seems like it is someone who knows about boats and has just done it to cause damage.

I had been out on the boat on the Saturday so it happened at some stage on Sunday/Monday (10th/11th April) in Fremantle.

Anyone got a Lowrance P66 transducer they’re looking to offload or have suggestions for repair?

Cheers,

Alex

surely not everyone in Freo walks around with some wire snips in their back pocket!!!! you would have to think that this was targeted for some reason.. just my thoughts... anyway, it stinks none the less.

It does seems targeted, although there is no reason for that to be the case - all the neighbours are kept full of crays and fish!  The cable was definitely cut with snips as both sides of it are compressed; it wasn't just a slash with a knife.  I can only think it is a case of mistaken identity or I was just unlucky in a random act of vandalism.   Perhaps a Dockers supporter was walking past during the derby and heard a few cheers for the Eagles...

That is pure shit. I always stress because the rear of my boat sticks out into a corner block verge protected from sight by a 5m retaining wall and bushes.

Surely there is someone who bought a 587/588 with the free P66 and installed a 1kw ducer and can help this poor bastard out.

Cut either side .and they would pull through. Solder put heat shrink on every wire first, also big piece  of shrink to go over the lot. It will not fail. Certainly sucks shouldn't have to do crap like this . Good luck

I'm a bit further east from where the tyre slashings happened, so thankfully they're OK at the moment.  You have to wonder what would possess someone to go around and do these things?  Makes you a bit paranoid wondering what else they could have done too - brake cables, lights, etc.?  It certainly doesn't fill me with confidence fixing/replacing the transducer in case the same thing happens again.  I already strip my boat of everything and cover it up after each outing so nothing can be stolen - I dont want to have to remove the transducer each time as well!

Might have to move down to Rocko...

Kuzi is a legend!

Thu, 2016-07-14 08:38

I’d just like to thank Kuzi – he very generously took my transducer and cable and respliced it for me.  I’ve only managed to get out on the boat once since the repair, but everything worked just as well as before the vandalism.  Thanks again mate, I really appreciate it!

Fair to say I’ve been too scared to leave the transducer attached since...
