travel rods

hi guys and gals...

not too sure if this is the right place to post it but guess its the safest..

need some intro on them travel rods. do feel free to leave any feed back on the onces u have used..

make and model, how they feel, what fish were landed and how big they were...

reason is as school is only 5mins walk to the beach.. was thinking of getting a unit to stuff it into the school bag and go do abit of casting esp on those days when i have got them 3-4hrs lunch break.

all info are very welcome.

thanks in advance.. =)

Cheers

Oto

fly rods come in 4 piece and are portable - expand your horizons!

Otherwise have a look at the shimano raider travel rods as well.

I got a rod from ebay UK

Sun, 2009-12-13 21:41

4 or 5 piece ugly stick, all the travel rods i looked at local were very very light, this one is really for the heavier end of town.

might be worth a look

travel rod

Hi Otoshi,

You can check out my exxy report for some pics of my kit. That's a Shimmy Exage 330H 5-piece paired with a Shimmy Technium5000. I use that even when not travelling. It's a kick a$$ piece of kit. You can run a lighter reel, but then the outfit becomes tip heavy. My outfit is about 5yrs old (the Japs are years ahead) but they have new models of the same. This is the heaviest luring(20-50g) rod in this series which is still pretty light.

I can also do 2nbait or 3nbait on this outfit when bait fishing from the surf - which is not my thing anymore.

I can't find a 2pc rod that handles this well and this is the only good travel rod with the proper length for my type of fishing. Couldn't find any other manufacturer that offered these lengths (they all fall under 7ft or are dedicated surf or boat rods) and crispness in a travel rod - but I haven't been looking for a replacement.

As there are so many sections, I can also spiral the guides when using an overrhead on it.

If you're not into the big stuff there's another model. Exage270MH which i mate to a 2500 reel - it's balanced perfectly with either a 2500 or 5000 reel. And there's a 240M. Go for the one that has your lure weight in the mid range. I've got all three rods and all can land crazy stuff.

The only down side to a multipiece (i should say jointed) rod is that you have to assemble the rod properly - always 90degree twist on and off and you have more/joints to check as the day goes on.

Used to have an 8-piece loop fly rod too. Till some jerk stole it together with my titanium dive knife and freedive fins. I hope he cut himself with it. Got nothin to do with your post ... ... just still pissed as I ate "expiring yesterday" food in college while working 4 jobs to pay for it!!! Speaking of college, study first, then fish or you'll be stuck with a travel rod and no travelling. You won't regret putting in the hours.

I'm the only one I know who uses a travel rod. Guys, feel free to chip in.
