trim tab update

Gave the QL trim tabs a good work out on Sunday ,and was very happy with them used them all day .I would drive a while without them then put them on and in every case it made for a better ride .The biggest thing was I used 20 liters less fuel we did 60 nm roughly at around 3800-4200rpm and used around 50 liters not bad so I would recomend them to anyone looking at trim tabs

Good to hear Paul , iam glad they have fine tuned your rig even better now and getting the better economy from the Honda was a bonus , i think alot of boats and operators dont realize what an improvement a finer tuned boat can better the ride qualitys

Adam the fish were very quiet, got a feed but nothing to write about ,there is a lot of fish out there as the sounder was glowing on near every spot.

Alfred we carry 210 lt I could get to the islands and back on 100-120 lt so im thinking 100lt in jerry cans giving me a full tank to look around.

The fuel saying was unreal,we were heading into a lumpy 15kn se wind, siting on 30knots and not once did we cop a good bang to the hull

That's fantastic Paul.  I hope I can get off work in time to get the boat ready.  Might have to pass on this season otherwise.

Might do a day trip to TDS instead for the time being, before the close of the season.

What setting

Mon, 2010-08-16 19:21

where you using.  My ql tabs have an auto feature but have only used the tabs once and found them a little bit to get used to and the auto setting seemed to make the boat take a bad lean to the left.  I then spent some time trying to figure out how to turn them off.  Think I need to get the books out and read up on them before the next outing and give them the workout they deserve...

I didn't use the auto

Mon, 2010-08-16 19:48

I didn't use the auto setting .I get the boat up on the plain with full trim .Then check wich way the boat is leaning. If leaning to port you would press the starboard button, this lifts the port side off the boat.just one press of the button at a time until the bow is nice and level.this will allow the hull to cut the water, instead of droping side ways into the chop. When heading into the sea we kept the trim at full trim I had the port trim at #2 and the starbourd at #4 This leveled the hull and lowered the bow to cut though the chop. when traveling with the waves moter still at full trim and just slight tab to level the boat .Keeping the hull level is the key. Only the first time I have used them but am very impressed.Hope this made sense

Fuel usage !!!

Mon, 2010-08-16 21:03

Have to agree will Paul I run the Bennett tabs which are hydraulic and a bit cheaper but same priciple of operation and couldnt believe the difference it made to the ride quality.I didnt gain as much in fuel savings approx 15l a trip better but I'm able to do about another 15-20km/h faster through the same sea conditions than without tabs. Also leaning is now cured and head on into chop or bigger seas she now pushes through the waves without banging and the bow is kept on the back of the wave instead of becoming airborne and banging into the next one!!!!

Highly recomend them to anyone !!!

Ps this is on a 7.5 m plate ally boat too

Cheers fishfish.....
