Trolling skirts
Submitted by sea-kem on Sun, 2013-02-10 19:38
Hoping to get out for a bash next Sat if the weather plays the game, and am going to troll some skirts instead of swimmers to alleviate the weed factor. Would you guys recommend the bigger or smaller skirts? I've got a reasonable selection and was thinking if Mackies are about the bigger the better? Thoughts?
Cheers
Andy

skirt sizes
I don't think you need especially big skirts for macks, probably nothing over 9" but try and get chrome heads like the Richter Silver Tornado, I have even caught macks on the much smaller Tornado Jr.

Cheers Jamie. I've got a couple of the smaller ones that create the bubble stream as they shot along. I'm off to Darwin tomorrow for the week so will get that other item we discussed sorted when I'm back.

Fully agree with the jet
Fully agree with the jet heads... a bit higher speed also swims them better. Had so much success on those Richters, and heavier mono trace for me, as oppose to wire.

Yeah I only run the 80lb
Yeah I only run the 80lb wind on mono leaders Hesh. They are very handy and have never lost a fish up north on one. Heading up to the Jack Bates with Ian Rosi tomorrow to sort out some Sound dampening issues in the cementing room.

Skirted Lures
The Richter Tornado would be the best option for what you have described. We sell these rigged with a short length of wire that has a flemish eye at the end so you can simply clip on and off of your wind on leader. Bibbed minnows in deep divers are generally our favorite for Metro Mackies though can have the issue of weed becoming attached.
