Two boars (warning - photo of dead FERAL animals)

Not fishing, but a bit of hunting.

Picked up a couple of nice boars on the weekend. Big one was about 70kgs and the smaller one around 45kg.

Both were bedded down in the heat with the large one bolting from a small bush 2 metres to my left, thankfully he didn't charge at me.

Nice shots (both senses of the word) John, they are gnarly animals.

How far out of Perth do you have to go to get onto something like that?

The greens will get onto it eventually though soupy, there already trying to ban pig dogging. Read a story from a conference over east where some green scientist wacker stated that since there are now so many of these buggers in oz that we should just start referring to them as 'native pigs'. LOL WTF?

Great work, a couple of solid porkers there.

You nab a few fillets off them? Or not worth the hassle? Would love to be able to hunt a few of them.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Depends where ya get the pigs

Sat, 2012-11-24 21:05

Depends where ya get the pigs from mate. Out of the forrest and they arnt as good unless you take them home and fatten them up for a couple of weeks and run a wormer through them.

But if ya can get them out of the paddocks they taste heaps better than shop bought pork. They havnt been pumped full of water and drugs to fatten them up and when ya cook them they dont leave all that grey jelly in the pan that the shop stuff does.

You've got the hardest part sorted Habanero, you've found a spot that has game. Bit like fishing, animals usually have a home range based around feed, shelter, water and sex.

Time in the bush will lead to their downfall.

What type of deer? Fallow.

Morons

Mon, 2012-11-19 16:34

Like everything in life Chris, there's the morons that give everyone else a bad name, a good example being those who killed stumpy at Hamelin Bay or that arse hat who was beating that live gutted shark on youtube.

Done probably pig dogging is a very effective means of eradicating pigs, particularly in areas of heavy vegetation where shooting isn't practical.

The dogs should should only bail and then lug (hang onto the ears) until the handler gets there. The pig is then flipped by the back legs and dispatched humanely with a knife to the heart, dogs should trained to be called off as soon as the handler has control of the pig.

Been up here for 20 + years and have always been threatening to go and shoot a couple of hogs but never put the effort in. Best mate jackarooed on NT station with plenty of pigs near Katherine but seem to always try and find a new fishing spot before going out and chasing a few grunters. Your timing was right as before not too long the rains will spread the buggers everywhere. Last 2 fishing trips well and truly made up my mind about exploring, over 60 barra on lures, hard to beat !

Nice pigs mate. that bigger one has a killer set of chompers on him. big tusks and big grinders.

Good to see there is a few fellas into their shooting. I have only SHOT one pig and probably wont do it again. But have caught more than my fair share with the dogs.

And its good to see some people see the sence in pig dogging big john we have a hard time trying to justify our existance these days with all the do-gooders around.
