Two fishermen swim to shore after vessel sinks

Just a reminder to stay safe out there lads.

Without any further info it's hard to understand their line of thought to swim over 1km to shore at 3am instead of raising the alarm. Presumably the radio was underwater but why not activate the EPIRB and sit tight on the upturned hull of the boat with para flares ready? I'm not dissing the guys and am glad they got back safe. Just trying to learn from the experience in the off chance I ever find myself in the same situation.

Dont whether to swim or stay, either way risky but safer with boat i would say, just lucky they made it back with no bits missing. Fark that swim would be fast!

Stay with the boat

The recommendation is you stay with the boat. A lot easier to see that 2 heads in the water. They were lucky no one ran over them.

Don't know how you would go turtle out there with next to no swell? Rope around prop or hit the rock?

I wonder how many of these "rogue waves" are really people drifting over shallow reef where waves are breaking.

I would like to hear from them the full story of how it happened, you can always learn from some one else's experience.

Ahh, rogue waves

I hate that F**in term, journalistic laziness. In my experience, a rogue wave is just the one you didn't allow for in your totally inadequate assessment of what the ocean is doing on the day.
