getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

Well, after a bit of trauma

Fri, 2010-10-08 20:52

Well, after a bit of trauma getting a crew together for tomorrow, we are set to go, and my Traily gets to stay at home and have a break.

Looking forward to fishing for the first time with Chrisp, as well as Hlokk and 2 other blokes I dont know yet and of coarse my usual deckie TimVB (no bait Timbo........................................)

Lets hope the northerly does not slow the fishing too much.

Jigs all prepared, soft plastics (including 10 inch pink dildos) ready.........hpefully a good report to follow....................

John

Appart from a jigged 68cm dhu by hlokk and the harlequin taken by naylor one it was very tough going. The skipper Neal did put in a good effort to find us some fish but it just would come together unfourtunately.I did however mange to catch every shit fish the ocean has to offer...Yell

Hey Chirs, I would have

Sun, 2010-10-10 19:32

Hey Chris, I would have given my Stella away for a shit fish on Saturday. I must have changed jigs and soft plastics about 20 times, with a total of 4 hits all day for 1 solid hookup (for a total of 10 seconds) in the last 5 minutes of fishing.....for a grand total of zero fish boated........whats the jingle......

- jigs - $450

- soft plastics - $325

- rods - $75

- reels - $1850

- no fish landed.....priceless!!!!!!

To run salt into the gaping wounds, Chrisp put his rod in the holder with his Caprice jig basically sitting motionless about 5 m from the bottom while he took photos of Naylors Harley, whilst I beavered away twitching, cranking, fluttering and generally just  praying my caprice would get hit, for zero return, and yep, you guessed it, Chrisp's unattended caprice hooked up..........Chrisp called it for a good fish half way up but at least I got one smile for the day when it turned out to be very small foul hooked pinkie......hahaha....still, infinantly better than my feeble efforts!!!!

So, it would appear a completely unattended jig with just the motion of a 1.5 m swell is more proficient than my technique.............salt well and truly rubbed in.

Still, really nice day, and the skipper certanly tried very hard. Bait certanly outfished atrificials, but me, Timvb and Chrisp all kept the faith and did not revert to bait (blind faith some may say after a very poor return....).

Tim got a undersize dhu and BB on jig, so at least some return, Hlokk the very nice 68 Dhu, and that was about it for artificals, apart from Chrisps relentless shit fish on his squidgie softies, which proved to be pure wrasse candy, with each paddle tail coming back absolutely chewed dwon from 6 inch to a munted 1 inch stump!!! Still think they were rebadged Gulps Chrisp (hahaha).

Great meeting you blokes

John

NOHA it bcame obvios after

Sun, 2010-10-10 19:50

NOHA it bcame obvios after about 20 minutes that bait was gonna outfish artifials, but we had entered into a NSBO pact before the trip (No Stinking Bait Allowed)........about the only silver lining for me was no fish to clean....haha.

Good to see you get some fish though.  Unfortunately I am now hooked on the whole jig thing, as the thrill of hooking up  on jig is simply intoxicating.......even if I do go hungry a bit more often than when on bait!

Was a good day

Sun, 2010-10-10 20:08

Pity not many fish came over the side. I was happy with my first dhuie (undersize) on a jig. I'll definately being doing more of it after the ban. I think I'll even buy a new reel and maybe a rod for  jigging as I started to feel it in the arvo.

Great to meet you all.

Cheers
