Depends on load carried / rating. Were they replaced due to lack of tread, falling apart, cracking ?

Cant answer it really but my tires on my single trailer lastest 10 yrs then pulled apart. Tyres atm would have 10k and still good, under inflation at 2t will destroy them pretty quick!

Thu, 2013-06-27 21:41

Are they light truck? I've  had light truck on mine since I bought it and they've done some miles 3 trips up north and still have 50% tread. I actually thinking do I need to replace the because of age?

I believe that its recommended tyres are replaced once they hit six years of age, regardless of tread and condition.

Duals carrying a similar load

Thu, 2013-06-27 22:57

Duals carrying a similar load per tyre will never last as long as singles, they are dragged around every corner and much worse during maneuver's ie if you have a tight driveway

Dunbiers

Fri, 2013-06-28 05:38

I don't think dunbier tyres are actually that good quality, and I think they are only 6 ply from memory.

i had to pull into carnarvon and get 2 new ones, as the gnaraloo track destroyed the dunbier tyres.

Fri, 2013-06-28 12:57

Slightly off topic, but what sized wheels do we all run?  I have tandem 13" Holden on mine, and recently, when I had a puncture, I asked the tyre shop about second hand L/T 13" tyres.  He said there is none available at all (they're big 2nd hand wholesalers), and that most people have upgraded to 14"?

 Dual axle will wear out

Sun, 2013-06-30 17:32

Dual axle will wear out tyres faster than a single for the reasons already mentioned. Tyres should be replaced every 5-6yrs because of the rubber perishing & leading to increased risk of sidewall failure or tread separation. 13" light truck tyres are disappearing from the market & it won't be that long until an upgrade to 14" wheels is required. The only ones I know for sure you can still get are from Bridgestone in the R632 pattern. There's probably a few others around if you look hard enough but I'm not certain.

The problems with 13s I can't get a high enough load rating unless you buy the shitty US stuff! What's the load rating of your dunbiers ?

Sun, 2013-06-30 20:51

yeah Id think 14" would be better with your size boat, you can get 14" Doublestars for $80. Reason I asked though is many don't realize that torsions must have 120% load rating to be legal, any non-loadsharing for that matter.
But beware that going up in diameter can derate your brakes.

Sun, 2013-06-30 22:50

just fitted same on my trailer, but i didnt think you could get 13" rims over them-are they ford pattern?

Loadsharing-torsions are very good but while I was looking around at some imported US trailers being sold by manufacturers here, I noticed some were licencing them under their manufacturers bulk licences (whatever the scheme is called) and in one case even the tyres didnt make 100% let alone 120% and he couldnt tell me what the axles were rated at. "doesnt matter, I can do it to whatever you want mate"

Sun, 2013-06-30 20:02

Bought a set of 13"LT from bridgestone select in Balcatta just before xmas last year. They sourced some cheapies for me as I said they will die of old age before they wear out. There was no problem sourcing them.

Light truck, 3.5tonne boat, pretty good life i reckon.
