Tyre Pressure

Gday fellas - after a bit of advice - The tyres on my Fairlane say to inflate to 41 PSI, is this pressure fine to tow the boat down south of should it be up/down?

i was told by a tyre bloke when i last got tyres for my falcon wagon , pump them to 40psi , the ride will be slightly harder but you will get better economy and better milage out of the tyres

wears the centers out if

wears the centers out if inflated too hard, not to mention the rough ride.......but probaly will get marginally better fuel economy

and up here on gravel/gibber roads I tend to run lower pressures(30psi) to allow the tyres to flex when it hits sharp rocks etc rather than blow out

my hilux

runs at 42psi, sedans I ran at 32psi.

For towing the tyre placard usually recommends inflating it greater than normal.

4x4 Pressure

Sun, 2010-01-10 09:04

a couple of weeks ago I had my front tyres replaced at Bob Jane. Great service and price there too (plug). My vehicle guide says to run the tyres at 200kpa (about 30PSI). I noticed the guys put 41 PSI in and I questioned.

The answer I got was categorically that under normal conditions, the 4x4 should run at between 38 and 41. As Russ mentioned earlier, this gives better economy and wear. The reason for lower pressure is because the manufacturers want a comfortable ride and don't give a toss about anything else.

The Fairlane is a big car and so I would see no reason to suggest that higher pressure would be best suited, particularly if towing. 51 PSI as stated above seems a bit over the top to me though under normal circumstances....

Regular 2WD pressure should be high 30s

Sun, 2010-01-10 09:20

When I get a deaier service done they always drop the pressure down for a softer ride but that is costing you in economy and tyre wear.

Run my sedan at around 35-36

Sun, 2010-01-10 10:18

Run my sedan at around 35-36 psi as recommended by the tyre centre.  dont vary it when towing up to 700km just check the pressure s before going.

If the front tyres seem to slide when chucking a hard u turn (when not towing)  drop the pressure on the front a couple of psi

Cheers
