Submitted by james14 on Wed, 2012-03-07 18:07
Hi all,
I was in need of new tyres and put a mates near new tyres onto my Holden rodeo.
Now they are One size bigger than the standard for my rodeo
These tyres are going to show that my speedo is lower then what I am actaully doing? Or is it the other way around?
Cheers James

yeah i think thats correct
yeah i think thats correct mate, if your speedo says you're doing 100 you may be doing 105 or something like that. shouldnt be too much though. if you have access to a gps you could check it's speed with that

That's not all
James,
It is not just whether your speedo is correct, it matters what speed and load rating your tyres are and that they comply with the manufacturers specs. The specs can usually be found on the inside frame of the driver's door. This is very important because if your tyres don't match up to the manufacturers specs and god forbid you have an accident, your car is considered unroadworthy and therefore UNINSURED!! Don't treat this lightly, as the police do vehicle checks before holidays and Easter is coming up.

before you change them back.
before you change them back. give the insurance company a call. there are many cars out there with tyres that are slightly bigger than what they should have. not saying that David is wrong but you could be ok, as long as all 4 wheels have the same size on them. if different then you would definatly need to change

The rules are something
The rules are something along the lines of 15mm larger rolling diameter and 25mm extra width is allowable without an engineers certificate
