Nah. Pretty common in the north if you drift off the good ground and onto mud.

Patterns don't match any of the stargazers or jawfish in my books

This one is a Black Jawfish Opistognathus inornatus. It is generally less common that the Blotched Jawfish, which also has much bigger spots on the sides. And, for what it is worth, I think he is rather handsome!
