I think it might be a bit
I think it might be a bit blown out but in essence is true. Remember seeing a similar report on the news less than 2 weeks ago. Have a vague recollection of them talking about trying to freeze the surrounding ground to stop radioactive water spreading.

quick google: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-08-12/fukushima-plant-workers-raise-safety-concerns/4879960
Still based on the personal views of two workers but its from ABC, somewhat more reputable.

I'm inclined to think there
I'm inclined to think there may be some exaggeration but it is a pretty diabolical situation which ever way you look at it. The company involved just seems to be incapable of dealing with the issue properly.

dont agree with you on much
don't agree with you many times sea_kem but on this i do classic example of why we don't need nuclear in WA , coal fired power stations might be yesterdays technology but they are safe and reliable all the photos you ever see from the greenys are of the cooling towers which is just water vapor and joe public think is pollution

Whats so bad about it? The spread is heading to America by the looks of it, haha
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Not so sure Petermac, I think
Not so sure Petermac, I think while most of us here in the lucky country never go cold, hungry or unemployed coal is fine but if the situation changes ...we are sitting our asses on a big asset, that a shite load of ex miners might need, just to pay our debts. We may not only WANT to use but NEED to use. Im not sure if it is a good thing for us or not , but other countries have it and leaving ours in the ground wont make it any safer for us anyway, in fact in will probably make our country less safer IMO. Japan is still using nuclear power is it not ? The whole world is still not sure where to take nuclear energy thingo ... Me too !

apreciate your pinion
the simple fact is a nuclear power station is whats called a base load power station what that means is once its on line it will stay on line to have a nuclear station run you need a certain amount of load either wise you generate to much heat the simple fact is in WA we don't have the load demand for one , I am not antsy nuclear at all but wish the greenys knew the facts before they gob of

i definatly agree that every
i definatly agree that every detail on the link might not be exactly true or correct but i also think this is a problem that needs to be fixed or at least try to be fixed. but the way things are looking its going to be brushed aside just like every other man made disaster.

Interesting comments
Interesting comments here.
Couple of comments here about "Safe coal"
it's not just water vapour coming out of the cooling towers
A coal power plant releases more radioactivity into the atmosphere than a Nuclear plant. (edit: obv not Fukushima though LOL)
most ppl don't realise that coal contains amounts of radioactive Uranium and potassium as well as others.
now this doesn't get into global warming from greenhouse gas emissions. (which is probably a much bigger issue)
of course we need coal plants for now but we need to be building something different soon

I heard in the news recently
I heard in the news recently that a tidal generation plant is finally going to get built up North at Dotor's creek near Derby. From memory about 40MW so a half decent one and a step in the right direction.
