VHF Radio MMSI numbers

Hey just wonderig if anyone else has gone to the trouble of getting an MMSI number for the VHF radio system?
It seems like a really good idea and i heard Rckingham Sea rescue will be monitoring it in the near future.
For those that don't know if you have a compatable radio, like the Lowrance Link 5 connected to your gps you can send out a pre progammed distress call at the touch of one button which will keep on repeating untill it's recieved and also transmit gour GPS coordinates automatically.
It's a bit of trouble but seems worth it.

yep
I got mine a few years ago and altho a good safety idea I discovered that there are no manned vhf land stations around Australia. So unless a passing ship picks up your signal you will go unheard.
It is good to hear that Rockingham sea resue will be monitoring soon.
But all said and done I still think it was a worth while venture in getting it set up. Plus your boat will have a nice new, very long number to display on the transom.

I believe the marine Police monitor it. Well I rung them up about 3 years ago and they said they were going to.

Yep, Got the MMSI and DSC
All DSC calls initiated in the West go through MRCC Canberra then they contact the local SS&R orgs. So, it's a good backup especially if you have some non-boaties onboard. Just tell them "if I'm unable to call for assistance in an emergency you have to press this Distress button to send our coordinates".
Only a matter of time before SS&R orgs here will be monitoring it though.
