WA based custom high speed fairing blocks
Submitted by chevaps on Sat, 2021-01-02 09:27
Hi all.
Are there any WA based outfits that have experience with high speed fairing block design? Basically a WA equivalent of QME.
I'm looking to get a custom one fabricated and welded into the hull of my boat, and as one can appreciate i would want to get something fitted that i know will work effectively first time as there is essentially no going back.
Cheers.
Tom.

Hard to beat the airmar
Hard to beat the airmar fairing, either small size for 600W or large for 1kW transducers.
They bolt to the hull, two holes and sikaflrx, easy and work perfectly doubt you will do better with a custom. One.
Boston Whaler 235 Conquest......getting the flogging it was built for.

Why go with a flaring block and not just a normal through hull ?

Hi scubafish. My transducers
Hi scubafish.
My transducers are not thru-hull and need fairing blocks.
I've been experimenting with custom fabricated transom mount jobbies but haven't been 100% happy with their performance, plus now that i'm back in Perth i'm looking for something that technically can't be pinched. One thing i definitely miss about living in a small country town.... security.

I would just use the factory
I would just use the factory fairing for the 54. Have installed one and it works fine.
For the 200b have you considered getting one of fibrelites versions boulded in resin like a TM260? Heaps cheaper and high freq generally copes with transom mounting. I had one of these too and it worked great.
Other option is to see one of the boat builders like Genesis as they have welded them in on their boats before

Tim, funny you should mention
Tim, funny you should mention Genesis.
When i first got the SS54 i saw Genesis put up a post on FB about machined fairing blocks from their very own CNC machine. It was a sign i thought. A machined fairing block is ideal for the undoubtedly complex shape requied. I reached out wanting to enquire about supply only given where i lived, as i had access to ali welders locally.
Called once, no answer but left a message, no reply.
Called a second time a couple days later, left a message with the lady that answered, no return call.
Pretty much gave up after that and pursued other options which are clearly far from optimal.
I get they're probably flat out, but a little courtesy to say thanks for the enqury, but can't help you at this stage does go a long way. Makes me not want to reach out to them again, bht might have to give them another chance now that you reminded me of them.

Call
Yeah that no call back thing would annoy me too. No harm in just saying too busy making new boats.
I have seen some of their fairings and they look good and seem to work well.
These are on my glass boat https://www.facebook.com/allmarineserviceswa/photos/a.117531008415104/1682777095223813/
You could also look at the transom mount fairings that are floating around to suit the 200b.
The 200 worked really well cast in resin. I got mid 200's and over 30 knots with it

scubafish.
Yes i saw that post ages ago. Probs even when it was first posted.
No good for me though. That will only work for fibreglass boats.

Sorry
My only suggestion is that you talk to Furuno and see what they would recommend ,only ever seen flaring blocks on big boats and ones that will never see the beach.
P.S
Only other thing I thought of was to ring these guys and explain what you are wanting to do ,they may point you in the direction of making a mould out a rubber compound .
