Walking The Dog

I have 2 breaming lures:
a river 2 sea Baby rover (http://www.mylureshop.com/p/999804/river2sea-baby-rover-50.html)
and a Berkley 3B Scumdog

both surface walking lures.

I cannot get the correct swimming action on either of these lures are there any tricks or tips to improve technique to allow the side to side action?

Also is there a preffered knot you have to tie to the lure (eg a loop knot) to allow this action to work at the moment im using a uni-kont?

Thanks in advance

Cheers Duffman

The R2s is one of the easiest walk the dog lures around, create a tiny bit of slack line, then pull your rod downwards and back towards you with a twitch to take up the slack line, this should make the lure swing around and face in the other direction. Eventually you will get it down to a constant twitching motion.

The berkley scumdog is a tad bit harder, its about finding the right pace, the right twitch and the right angle, but it still can be done. If all else fails you can always work it like a stick bait which should help you get the action of the lure for walking the dog.

I haven't caught bream on either of those yet, but have caught tailor, herring and a couple of whiting.

also you shouldn't need to use a loop knot because of the split on the front, but you can if you want as it can't hurt.
