Wangara Fresh Bait Market – Member Input Requested

Shore Catch has committed to continued sponsorship of Fishwrecked.  The best value we get from the site is the input of Members about the products and services that we offer.  It has allowed us to shape our business to provide what customers want.

We have been working through the idea of running a Saturday morning fresh bait market from our premises at Wangara.  We have all the permits, parking, building layout, refrigeration, packaging and can buy required products from many sources.  We are seeking feedback on the concept and how you would like to see it work.

The initial idea is 7am to 10am every Saturday morning at 65 Buckingham Drive Wangara.  We will make available fresh bait fish products that can be selected from tubs and weighed and packed as required.  Although product availability fluctuates, likely species are: pilchards, sardines, mullet, garfish, trevally, herring, whiting, mackerel, squid, octopus, tuna, plus others based on supply at the time.  Price per kilogram would be set on the market floor, but we would also barter price based on volume, although there would be no holds and you must take it with you.  There would be no guarantee of supply on the day, except for what we advertise prior as an available species and you arrive early enough to buy it.

Your thoughts on the concept would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Jim,

Thanks for the comment.  As Cal said, they are food grade but we don't sell them for that purpose.  Best quality bait you can get though.

I do note that the AJ Langford Fish Market within Market City in Canning Vale has a Public Open Day each Saturday morning.  It is generally the fish that didn't sell at auction during the week though.

Great idea Mick. It'd be handy to hand pick the size of bait like squid for a particular rig that I plan on using as I like to use smaller whole squid for drift baiting.

Are you planning on having the infamous shredder going at the same time?

Hey frosty there's all ways a chance to fire shredder up, but coming into the hot weather we can only shred when it cool, otherwise a half hour clean up turns into a 3 hour nightmare

Setting Up

Mon, 2017-09-25 19:30

Although we haven't got a lot of comments on the concept, may as well start to get ready for the summer.  With the volume we are processing at the moment, a cold store will be essential as it heats up.  Will advise regarding the fresh bait market in due course.  Cheers.  Mick
