Hi All
Im new to boating and like to get my 5 mtr stacer out on the ocean as much as possible but realy dont understand the weather. Can someone explain to me what i should be looking for as far wind speeds and directions ,ese nse ssw etc etc along with swell and tide. I realy dont have a clue if a easterly is better than a south easterly. I mainly go out of Mindarie or ocean reef. I have managed to find all the weather sites BOM, SEABREEZE etc but there not much use if I dont understand the info.

Certainly start talking to people
There is a lot to learn and the best way IMO is to engage with a few experienced boaties and take onboard what they have to offer in terms of advice. Being a good listener when inexperienced can work really well and speed up your efforts to become a good boatie so to speak. Good luck with the Stacer.

15 rule.15 knot winds1.5m
15 rule.
15 knot winds
1.5m swell
1.5m seas
This is the upper limit for most trailor boats. Obviously depends on your skill/boat. But its still uncomfortable out there at rest.
Wind direction isnt usually a big factor out there, but if your inshore, an easterly can be kinder.
Swell is the waves created from winds along way away. It is what us surfers look for. Out to sea its the rolling swell.
Seas are the waves created by the imediate winds, ie chop.
So if you get 1.5m seas and 1.5m swell there can potentially be upto 3m high waves out there.
