Western Australian Family Fishing Alliance
Acccording to the Sunday Times today a new group called Western Australian Family Fishing Alliance (WAFFA) has been formed in response to the proposed changes in fishing rules. The group has reportedly been founded by local tackle , boating industry figures & keen recreational fishers.
I have long held the the view that any organisation that is largely funded by Government can do little more than act as a mouthpiece for the Government that provides their funding. This I believe is Reckfishwest's biggest impediment.
I note that the reduction in fish fillet weight was according to Reckfishwest only approved if combined with shark mitigation strategies. No shark mitigation has occurred. Also the fillet weight reduction was supposed to be for a 12 month period. I'm not holding my breath.
Reckfishwest is definitely doing a great job in other areas which don't threaten Government changes whch seems to be driven by a Fisheries department with a very strong green agenda.
Perhaps the formation of this new entity will give us the chance to have our concerns heard.
We are invited to sign a petition asking the Minister to consider all the options before introducing new restrictions.
The petition is titled Don't Take our Fishing Freedom which can be accessed by entering those words in Google search.

I'm sure some small fund raising wont be far off which again wont be a problem while being fully independent.

Great idea and signed. Need
Great idea and signed. Need to move the pros to sharks and load the fish and chip shops with beautiful flake. Most average punters couldn't tell the difference between a piece of shark and a piece of a demersal fish. Let the Recs who are the people that are passionate about them catch the demersal's.

Agree Moondog. When I was growing up flake was what we got every time from the fish & chip shop and we loved it. It would be relatively cheap (certainly cheaper than spaniard) and definitely sustainable. No brainer IMO

this is great but the only thing is !
This is great and it should be aplauded.... But unfortunatly the WA government dont accept E pettitions.
you could have 100,000 signitures and they wouldnt accept it in parliment.
It needs to drafted up correctly with hand signitures....We have been doing this for getting filleting stations at metro boat ramps
we
Does anyone know who has done this petition where I can contact them ?
We want to persue this issue and work with asmany people as we can to try do something now rather than wait and see.

In the Sunday Times article
In the Sunday Times article it mentioned that Lisa Harvey was one of the founding members. I don't have any contact details for her.
Hope this helps a little. Would be really great to have a representative body which was truly independent.

So your saying, the party
So your saying, the party that has been formed to put forward our voice to parliament is founded by a politician? Seems a bit backwards in being forwards. We should just stick with the two other government puppet groups we have rather than feeding a third. Or am I off the mark here?

Hi Rob. The report stated
Hi Rob. The report stated that the group had been founded by Tackle shop representatives, boating industry representatives & keen recreational fishermen. Liasa's name was mentioned & I volunteered her name in response to the question above concerning petitions.
If you're happy being represented by the current QUANGO groups by all means stay with them. I just fail to see anything that they achieve that isn't in line with what the Government wants. So called consultation & meetings are nothing more tan a Government smokescreen.
I was fortunate enough to spend a week fishing the Rowley Shoals with a group of keen fishermen including Hal & Lisa Harvey a number of years ago. Lisa may have been involved in politics but she is one very keen & experienced fisher.

Agree re Lisa, I heard her
Agree re Lisa, I heard her interviewed on the radio a year or so. She's extremely passionate about rec fishing and considering the untimely death of Hal has an emotive involvement. She's a voice we need imo.

Thanks for the info, we have
Thanks for the info, we have been in discussion with some people from this group and yes Lisa Harvey is part of this group...Being an ex liberal leader.. we think her internal knowledge of the system will be highly beneficial to the cause.
please sign and share the petition so our voices are heard ...

I guess she does have a stronger connection and stands to loose more than most of us if these changes come into place, which is the passion we need on our side.

If I remember correctly Liza
If I remember correctly Liza Harvey's entry into politics was on the back of fighting a proposed 4.5 month demersal ban and may still own Bluewater Tackleworld so definitely has form on the issue and skin in the game. Her involvement can only be a plus imo.
Officially off the Pies bandwagon
