Whale carcass off Lancelin
The Department of Fisheries have issued a shark warning after a whale carcass washed ashore at Lancellin.
Beachgoers in Lancelin have been warned to be extremely cautious of sharks when entering the water after a whale carcass beached in shallow waters.
The Department of Fisheries says the whale carcass, on the northern side of the Lancelin township, will continue to be a shark hazard while it remains in the area.
"Visitors to Lancelin during the long weekend are advised to be extremely cautious in the marine environment," the department said.
The carcass is within the tidal zone and has the potential to attract sharks.
The local shire has erected warning signs on the beach, a popular surfing, sail boarding and kiting area.
Any shark sightings should be reported to Water Police on 08 9442 8600
