what besides a Ford G6 would you buy?

I'm looking at a new Family Sedan,
at the moment the Ford G6 Limted Edition with leather trim is on special for under $35k, what else would you consider?
must have at least 140kw, have 5 or 6 speed autobox, with manual functions, leather seats and good ride?
The Holden Commador is just bland and not up to the G6's nice interior.
The Toyota is just average, but a good ride
I have no feedback on the Nissan Maxima, who has one?

cheers
Tony

Go the G6, I may be in the market for a new car mid year and the XR6 is probably what we will be getting. Great drive and plenty of power, plus pretty good on fuel too.

Cheers

Subaru Liberty  4GEN.

Sat, 2010-03-13 23:28

Subaru Liberty  4GEN.   Either the 3.0R or GT.

3.0R is 3L 6cyl.  180kw @ 297nm
GT is 2.5L 4cyl turbo, 184kw @ 339nm. Pre 2007 is 2.0L 180kw/310nm.

Available in leather, 5sp auto & wagon. Decent build quality,  and you can find excellent examples for the $35k mark.

AWD so they drive and handle very well in all conditions.

Just had a quick look at the maxima, wow.  Great value!
the 3.5L in them are very smooth.

G6 Limited Edition

Sun, 2010-03-14 21:02

If I were looking for a large sedan it would be the G6 limited edition.

Definately the best for towing out of all the common large 6's. Nice torque from the 4.0, not bad fuel economy too for the size too. Have a search on carpoint.com.au. Thay have recently done head to head tests against the new SIDI Holden Commodore and the Ford comes out on top.

Common vehicle, everyone knows how to work on them which will save you a bucket load once the waranty runs out if you plan on keeping it that long. The back seats fold down! Used to be common, but not so in lots of new cars.

Only problem is the Ford Falcon resale value. Ouch! Still the best choice of a very capable bunch.

You are on the right track.

for me

anything but a Ford. Have worked with them extensively and would never own one myself.

And aside from that, I doubt anything in that car bracket will legally tow your Berty anyway (unless you have another boat to tow).

Huggy, not the Berty, (

Mon, 2010-03-15 10:11

Huggy, not the Berty, ( thats well over 3 tons...lol)
No needs to tow upto 2 tons for the horse float and a little project I may start soon.
I have a trailer for a small boat that will have extra room on it for a large trunk and the quad as well, for camping trips.
Saw such a nice set up where it was done as well.
These days we going to need two tow vehicles in future with the wifes/sons horses on weekend and me wanting to do things as well,

I will still keep the Jeep for long away trips and towing heavy loads, so a good V6 frontwheel drive could do the job, as very little ramp work towing is needed.

Looks like I'm down to the Ford G6Ltd, Holden SV6, Nissan Maxima V6 (2,5) and Aurion SX
It's all going to now be about bang for buck and cost of extra,s etc...And to have a good nice driving car that is relaxing to use on long runs down to Margret river etc.

well cross off the Liberty,

Mon, 2010-03-15 14:10

well cross off the Liberty, only one with grunt and guts is the 3.6R and at $58k drive away they can keep it. Just tested one,

Toss out the Toyo Aurion as well, as bland as dried wombat sh!t, nice motor is all can say for it.

Down to G6 again and Nissan Maxima, some how it seems like I'm going over to the Dark Side, well Dark Blue oval side at least, as the G6ltd is still the pick of the cherry tree.
The only Holden that comes close is the SV6 International, but at nearly $8k more !!!! it's hard to justify for the same specs and performance etc....

Anyone out there got the 2008~2009 Maxima either 2,5 or 3.5Lt???
I am going to try and get a test drive in one tomorrow
cheers
Tony

Adam, the wife would hurt me badly...lol

I did test the Nissan Maxima last night.
not a bad ride, but some things against it.
Silly Merc type foot operated hand-brake ( bloody yank style marketing!)
the 2.5V6 donk a little down on oooommph and grunt compared to the G6.
So lets see what deal the men in Blue can do in the next week and what colours / trim etc.
Need to do a novated lease to kill some tax.

Tony

I can't novate lease a secondhand vehicle... :(
I know, last night looked at G6E turbo next to the one I may be taking. But new they way too expensive to justify for now.
Now to sort out the finance and see if the colour choices are in stock, as we want one of the burgundy ones.

If I had the money Tony

Wed, 2010-03-17 09:24

for towing, anything, Ford F250, 7litre diesel, turbo, plenty of room, leather seats, don't think they come in manual, only seen auto's..... hhhhammmmm my 4x4  if I win lotto with a fifth wheel Caravan at the back.  The one I want is $120 grand heheh, I know fellas I'm dreaming, doesn't cost anything to dream

Being sensible Ford V8 LTD, auto,if they still make them,  I'm a ford girl, plenty of torque, limited slip diff. leather seats, love the smell of a new car especially with leather interior.

well it was decided today,

Wed, 2010-03-17 11:51

well it was decided today, the wife drove the G6Ltd and said that it "I want it"... so all done and dusted, just the banks now to keep happy ...
We did look at the G6Eturbo, but a LOT more and the XR8 is not as polished as the G6LTD in the luxury side, the ride is harder in the XR8 and being both short, we hate that back wing right in the middle of your rear view!!!
If I wanted a wing, I'd get a Boeing!...lol
I'm afraid Holden have dropped the ball in that price range and nothing in the Holden stable under $40k came even close to features etc, in fact Holden was third choice for us after Nissan Maxima in second..
