What do you do for a living - 2013
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Tue, 2013-05-28 17:11
Well its been a fair while since I did one of these and there's probably a few changes since last time. It was a very popular thread assisting some people to get into different careers so will see how we go.
I'll go first. I'm now a Health Safety Security advisor for Mermaid Marine up here in Dampier and run Fishwrecked on the side.
Cheers,
Adam

Safety Consultant - Oil and Gas
Safety consultant working for a large multi-national as the EHS Lead for all onshore oil and gas exploration activities in Australia. Prior to that I was in offshore exploration as HSE advisor working around the world on a 28 day rotation on semi-submersible drilling rigs for both drilling contractors and operators. Did that for 10 years. And last but not least I was a soldier in the Australian Army from 1986-2001.

Works Manager - Royal Australian Air Force
I'm currently employed in the Air Force as a Works Manager. Present posting is Sydney NSW, but at the moment I'm deployed in Afghanistan. Summer over here, and its bloody hot. Hottest day so far 61.3℃. I return home in October after completing a 6 month deployment to my wife and 7 year old daughter. This is my 7th deployment overseas, and frankly I'm over it. Good news is I've been posted to Exmouth at the end of the year to take up the role of Bare Base Manager at RAAF Base Learmonth for the next 3 years. Woo Hoo! Time for a well earned rest and some serious fishing. I can't wait! Since finding out about my new posting location, I have started searching for a serious fishing boat to buy! Problem is I've already found some rippers, but timing is my worst enemy. I have to wait until I return to Australia before I an actually purchase! Bugger! I'm only new to the site, but hope to become more active when I return home. Cheers Spike.

way to go
Afghanistan to Exmouth, talk about polar opposites. And 61C makes Exmouth's 47C look almost bearable. Good luck with the move, it's a great posting. Cheers.

Accounts Administrator
Nice title for 'debt collector' - I run the accounts receivable department for a Fruit and Veg wholesaler. Best office job I've ever had.
Would rather be fishing though...
Some of the other jobs I've had:
Deckie/Cook on Gulf of Carpentaria prawn trawlers
Commercial crabber - Cockburn Sound
Fisheries Dept - doing a survey of sex and size of catch
Crew on a cruising yacht traveling through SE Asia for a couple of years.
Cook for a Restaurant.
First ever job was running a dinghy hire service, and selling worms (that I dug up) for bait. Wrapped them in wet sand in newspaper, sold them for 20 cents a dozen. I made a small fortune - was 11 years old then.
Save the Whales! May as well - they won't fit in my catch bag!!!
