What do you do for a living - 2013
Submitted by Adam Gallash on Tue, 2013-05-28 17:11
Well its been a fair while since I did one of these and there's probably a few changes since last time. It was a very popular thread assisting some people to get into different careers so will see how we go.
I'll go first. I'm now a Health Safety Security advisor for Mermaid Marine up here in Dampier and run Fishwrecked on the side.
Cheers,
Adam

For the Gorgon project. Yep get paid to travel around the world looking at lots of different stuff heading down under. Started working life in marketv gardens down south, became a qualified cabinet maker andran me own small workshop for 10 odd years, Got a start on the Pluto project as a TA and got accredited by AQIS to inspect and clear cargo coming in from O/S which was discharged at Dampier MOF wharf and so started my new career.

Earthmoving machinery
Been involved in sales, hire, overseas purchasing etc of earthmoving gear for the last ten or so years. Everything from skid steers (bobcats) through to Cat 793 haul trucks, PC3000 diggers, WA1200 loaders etc. Used to get up around Mt Whaleback, Karratha, Karara, Christmas Creek etc.
Industry has had a bit of a downturn, so I was made redundant back in Feb. Can't believe that even not working full time, I still struggle to find time for a fish!
On the lookout for another sales/rental role, or anything else in the meantime. Feel free to PM me with offers of well paid crew positions that involve lots of fishing and a bit of cleaning at the end of the day.
Cheers,
BD.

i got retired about 3 .5 years ago when i got hit by an explosion when working in the o/g indudstry only 53 now but thanks to a very large out of court settlement and a super fund that had a TPI clause in it and having enough sense to to have income protection i wont have to work again , if any members out there that need advice on workers comp or the like send me a pm i have had to become an expert at it in the last 3 years , i was going to be cut of from workers comp after 12 months even though i was still in hospital and still having on going surgery so i fought them and set a precedent in WA that now makes it it illegal to cut a persons workers comp off whilst they are still getting treatment
