What do you do for a living - 2013

Well its been a fair while since I did one of these and there's probably a few changes since last time.  It was a very popular thread assisting some people to get into different careers so will see how we go.

I'll go first.  I'm now a Health Safety Security advisor for Mermaid Marine up here in Dampier and run Fishwrecked on the side.

Cheers,

Adam

Currently working as an Information Consultant/Investigator.

Have experience in most fields but steer away from the sneaking around type work or anything to do with husband/wife issues - too messy for me.

Mechanical Fitter at Rio Tinto Dampier now but hoping to get into the commercial diving scene soon. can't imagine anything better, on the water every day, and it doesn't matter how rough it is on the way out, there are no waves under the water :-)

Tue, 2013-05-28 20:52

quite a few of the commercial divers Ive worked with (especially the ones trying to establish) in the O&G seem pretty disillusioned with it.

Heaps of new divers being churned out, cut throat, pressures always on not to "rock the boat", and very patchy work.

Plus the money didnt seem all that flash unless its saturation work.

But having a mechanical trade would also give you an advantage compared to the average newer blokes who are basically an ROV, silly as it sounds.

Lecturer at TAFE after 40+ years working in different engineering roles in many countries. Train/Lecture/Educate 1st and 2nd year apprentices in fitting and machining plus selected "pre-apprenticeship in school students".Seems the young minds are not where they should be with the "modern" schooling techniques. Enjoy the 8+ weeks holidays but hate the paper work and career bureaucrats who reside in Canberra who change the goal posts.

Retired

Wed, 2013-05-29 10:01

Retired from working not living,

my back and knee retired me from work 5 years ago

however my work history from the mid 70's is

Taubmans - making, blending and tinting paint

Prestige toyota - spare parts

Boans Morley - Despatch

Kresta blinds - started in the factory, ended up in the orifice

Envelope specialists - making envelopes (who would've guessed)

Mobil - Servo manager.

Cancer Carer - family.

now just spend my time relaxing and occasionally dragging the boat out and trying not to

catch north west blowies (any decent fish would be nice) i'll get one eventually.

Work in Subiaco for WindowLogic as an IT Support officer. Support Woodside Energy and Horizon Power Document Management Systems/Users and do a lot of admin work.
I wonder why I am fishing in my spare time ?????
Just lucky enough to be able to afford living in Perth (Geez its expensive), might be going to Canberra to do some BA work if all goes well but I am not holding my breath. Anyone offering any IT jobs with a decent pay?
