What to get the mrs for Christmas?
Submitted by scano on Wed, 2013-12-11 10:46
So who can assist with some suggestions on what to get the wife for Christmas? Maybe even some of the female members on here?
i am dead set fresh out of ideas. Done the whole perfume, day spa's, dresses, jewelry, e reader, ect.
been married now for about 8 years and it don't get any easier picking something out. The mrs had a baby in the last year so she got her wish there also. Hahaha
any good quality suggestions would be much appreciated by several forum members, I am sure I am not the only one on here in this pridiciment.
its easy enough for the women to buy blokes things. Shimano this, Daiwa that, anything fishing related really.
sorry I know this is not fishing related however I am sure I am not the Lone Ranger here.

buy her a thermomix, they cost a bit, but it helped me when I wanted the new dinghy. plus side is she can cook for you and the bub, all the good stuff...(healthy). My misses does a great risotto and mash in it, but there are heaps more. It's always good to have a "one up" as such. Means the boys fishing trip for 8 days is a given.
to fish or not to fish...as if there was an option.

Sonos
If she's into music the Sonos system is pretty good. Just got one for my mrs birthday with a spotify subscription and she loves it. Can be controlled from the phone or ipad and now she has every song in the world. Also saves her buying albums from itunes all the time. The sound quality is pretty astounding too.
I have also found that Tiffany's never fails. Costs a bloody fortune but that little blue box has always got me out of the bind when I've been stuck for a gift.

Don't
Don't do what I did and buy her a new mop. That was like 10 years ago and she's still giving me shit about it. Mind you she still got it and uses it. On the lighter side that Pandora stuff is pretty good, buy the bracelet and just add the charms for future birthdays etc
This habit is getting expensive!

Mate! We just had a child
Mate! We just had a child also, best gift ever is go to one of those stalls that print a picture onto a keyring, pendant, or locket, even an IPhone case,
takes an hour maybe 2 and they take pics straight off ya phone, camera or whatever it's on, because you have a baby, get a good picture and shell have it forever, I gave one to my partner for birthday and got so much love! Just a thought... Goodluck

Might give mine the same as last year. 4 days of peace and quiet with the kids while I go to the Abrolhos.

But the mrs is already a good cook and has more kitchen utensils than you can throw a stick at.
and she is not really one for Pandora bracelets.
i was thinking maybe a nice weekend down south with some of her girlfriends and their newborn kids. That way I can bugger off fishing for the same weekend! Haha

Good on you want to do the right thing
When it comes to relationships, its important to give in a way that will be appreciated. Buying a $5000 present when they don't want it, or valuable expensive jewellery etc won't be valued. Just like a thermomix, not asked for will say - you need to do a better job cooking perhaps. Conversely one asked for will say you value me and my cooking and my time and lead to 1000 Brownie Points.
Suggestion - done in a respectful way is to start the converstation with I would like to talk to you about your Christmas present, would you like it to be a surprise, or would you like to talk about it together? Some people want surprises and in this case they are giving you permission to get it wrong too. What they are asking for is for you to spend considerable time (and perhaps money and effort) in thinking about me and your gift will reveal that you love and appreciate me.
These people need a gift that shows this. It is okay to talk to their sister, mum and best friend as this adds to the love and effort, not cheapens it. Asking on this forum was good idea too, but we don't know what she likes and who she is. Fortunately for me, my wife is not a surprise girl and it goes to the second part of the conversation.
is giving time and good listening that is important. It is not important what the gift is, it is that you want to give a gift and communicate about it. This may include your suggestion - how about this Saturday we get a baby sitter, go to the local Westfield and look at things you are interested in, have lunch and a coffee together and discuss and get a gift you like. She feels loved, connected and valued and you get her something she likes. #winning.
Maybe there is a joint answer like - lets go to Broome for a week together for each others Christmas present. Together and both happy. Bad suggestion is lets both go to Bali for a week - I am thinking February, how about you go in June... Relationship Communication Tips brought to you by Ricey

you could always
you could always send her to Bali for a week (so she can relax and refresh with her sister or best friend ) while you do a week at Harriy Dogs Kimberly fishing camp (so you can relax and get stinky by not showering or changing your clothes for a week) , learning to speak woman means more fishing trips

Hey Adam
If you are thinking I pod then buy it online at the apple store. That is always the best prices and if you order on there for delivery direct to your door you can get them to do an engraving on the back free of charge before they send it. ( definitely on the I pod nano's but I am sure they do it for the other also)
I did that a few years ago for the mrs and got her name pit on the back of it prior to it being sent.
also not sure if they still do it this way but I got a limited edition apple online only candy red version that you cannot buy in store.
hope this helps

5yrs ago old fart
bought me a PC, loved it, it died this year so I have a new Laptop for Xmas.
Speaking as a woman I think going out to tea at a nice (not expensive resturant) would be nice. Flowers love flowers, somebody only has ever bought me one big bunch of flowers hahahah
A present from the heart is the best present, women don't care if its not a expensive gift, the gift must come from the heart.
What are her hobbies, me I'd love to throw some clay on a wheel and mold into a nice cassorel or mugs etc.
If your wife lives here but mum and & Dad live interstate, maybe a paid visit to see their daughter and grandchild. The train ride from the east is lovely better than flying and more reliable. I lived in Melbourne for 20yrs only ever saw my parents once for Xmas, I was so homesick even after 20yrs.
Get Xmas lunch catered for, the full 9yards, let her sit and be pampered for Xmas lunch especially if its your turn to host Xmas lunch for the family.

Want something novel?
1st year I went out, did some thinking, searching and bougth her a nice gift (as a total surprise) ..... she didn't like it and went and swopped it out....
2nd year I asked for a list, went out and bought 4 things on it......... she said I didn't put enough thought into it..
3rd year I sneaked off and got some classy underwear custom made, the whole extremely comfortable, sexy, non scratchy, perfect fit, 300 bucks per set stuff.......she said it was a waste of money.
4th year I gave her a gift voucher for a grand...... she said that it was the laziest gift idea she had come across..
5th year she got a christmass card, with the note " Happy christmas, now you really have something to really bitch about.
Now I can buy her just about anything and it gets appreciated.
Last year she bought me a Theromix and I bought her a Jigmaster rod and stella reel...... then we smiled at each other and swopped gifts.
If you are really stuck, give her a home made coupon book that she can cash in when she wants. ( free back rub, dinner for 2, foot massage, breakfast in bed, etc) add a bottle of perfume and you're set for the year.
Wish I'd thought of Mustang's idea in year 5, that would of been priceless....and I'd probably be single

Oh my god
Im not alone. My Mrs is well and truely into fishing, BUT............
If I ever bought her anything usefull I would be in dire straits. So over the years she "blings", so much so I cant bye her anymore bling.
No more bling, nothing useful, no fishing gear etc HELP!!!!!!!!!
The only good news is she ALWAYS gets me a hefty voucher to a Tackle store (enough to cover my wants and I also get her what she needs, and make the lucky store she picks very very happy) I am sure part off the voucher she knows will come to her.
She's well and truely into humour, so Mustang, your idea MIGHT cause a laugh for sure??
CraigJ Im still LMFAO.

After reading Riceys approach ..after dinner I complimented her on how nice the sausages and baked beans were , then bought up the subject of me buying xmas pressies for herself and the family .. she just laughed and said " I don't think so " I need your bankcard though .. Fantastic , no need for me to concern myself then .. it's all sorted
