But landing a 4/5kg salmon on my 6wt fly rod. I thought I was gone at one stage there with it taking me well into the backing, but my mate skippered the dinghy and chased it down while I stripped like a madman.

30kg plus GT from Dampier in some brutal ground. Best fight I've ever had on a rod a reel. Half my twisted leader was shreaded through but it held up and I landed it on one strand.

From a fishing point - 38lb Sambo on 15lb line or my 98cm flattie on 2kg braid(looked like a shovel nose shark).

From a "oh WOW" standpoint, the Mackie in my avatar, went near on 50lb and looked awesome when it came up.

Whats the rod your using Kasey? Well and the rest of the gear too.

That would have been fun? Shallow or deep water? Nice day for it.

A trout

Sat, 2008-11-15 17:22

It was a massive 30 cm rainbow(just joking about the massive part). We went down south near pembie and for two days we fished the treen creek .I cast to a tree and got a solid little hit but no hook up .

Kept casting was about to move on another solid hit this repeated for over an hour changed lures & hooks ect. Finally got him only to find he was blind in one eye,he only hit when i got my lure between him and the bank.He made my work hard to catch him.Had to wade through freezing cold water to put him back .I thought he would be better off in a spot he knew. That fish taught me alot, just when you think you have it right you need to think again.

favourite would be his 2kg harlequinin 20 metres of water behind the stragglers

his biggest was 36kg sambo and carpet shark weighing in at 30kg plus both caught in a 100 metres of water by hand with 80lb hand line, took up most of the deck on the boat, I've got  photos but can't scan to put up to show, caught out on the bank straight out from Garden Island.

Marlin

Sat, 2008-11-15 20:03

Would have to be the 110kg marlin landed in my 4.1m tinny this July.  3 hours 45 on bottom fishing gear (only took 1 trolling rod) with a snapped live fibre in 3 pieces for the last 40 minutes of the fight in rising seas, lowering tide, an exhaused deckie after 2 hookups that dropped, and the double hookup which saw a 50kg billie dropped and the 110kg black stay connected.  Was the best 35 minutes of trolling in oil slick seas I've experienced.  That was after dropping a few reds and landing a smallish one.  Also had no teasers, they were just purely hungry for plastic, was insane.  Landed and raised plenty of marlin this season past, but nothing like this day.

my biggest fish other than a shark would be a 21kg mulloway ,again down at canning bridge on 18lb line with my sigma shakespear 080

just for the record .jacks

Sun, 2008-11-16 15:38

just for the record .jacks made a typo .it was 150kg not pounds.i was there
one of my best catches was a 4to 5 kg dhui on squid gear i had pulled out it out of a mates shed to go squidding in geo bay after a few hours of drifting around for naff in the squid steaks the boys went for K.G s .not me ,biggest rusty hook in his box [about a 5/0 ]big hunk of bait and bam 10 minutes later with no net no gaff and about 15lb leader .i asked a mate to grab it and he went the eye gauge lift,, NO DICKHEAD ..5 minutes later i comfort lifted the dhu myself. the boat had been in that family for more than 15 years and that was 1 of 2 dhuies i caught in 3 days to christen the boat as far as dhuis go .
always in it just the depth that varies
