Can get sections that screw

Can get sections that screw together and will go as long as you want. Oceanside had a couple when I was in there a while back.

Annodised

Not that I have used them, but those gold anodised ones look good for sale at a few tackle shops. Make sure you get a good front hook and the fittings aren't sloppy, weight is also the other factor. Let me know if you find a good1

Extendable pole gaff

Mon, 2011-05-02 08:54

The only way to get long gaffs like that is to buy the extendable poles. We stock the poles with joints to go to as long as you want.

Damax

Mon, 2011-05-02 09:49

I am pretty sure ours is a Damax and it is just over 7m long. We bought it as a two piece and then got two extension arms. They are a good solid gaff but are very awkward to use at that length.

 the problem wit long gaffs

Mon, 2011-05-02 12:54

the problem wit long gaffs is the difficulty of use. i had to gaff a decent wobbegong on saturday with a long one (only bout 3-4m tho) and it took me a good 5 minutes to get a decent enough gaff shot.

You've seen me gaff lol standing straight was a struggle that night
When sober I have a very good record
some places require the long ones as swell smashes the fish against the rocks and a rope gaff takes too long. The trick is don't hesitate and go behind your leader

Get the extendable painters

Get the extendable painters pole.  each section extends 1.8m and you can screw several together. I got mine at Bunnings, they are ally, have a very secure lock and strong but the outside section is maroon in colour, which allows it disappear into the night.

cliff gaffs are ok

or you make one from ally poles that join, have a piece of wood jammed in one end ,shape it so a gaff head sticks in there, tie the gaff head onto some rope, gaff the fish and pull it up with the rope , if you are rock fishing, worked a treat for BJ and myself when we used to fish the stones up north
