Which Anchor?

which Anchor are you using / is the best?
I bought aCooper Anchor, and it is supposed to be for Upto a 6m boat. It drags through the sand, so thinking of getting another Anchor, an old bloke I know who has been round boats for ever swears by the Bruce.

Anchor
Make sure you are using plenty of chain between the anchor and your anchor rope, I have a 5m boat and I have got about 8m of chain !!!!!!!!!!

Depends on bottom. Plough and danforth are good general use, danforth stows better
As above plenty of chain

Have a read of this.
Interesting read, particualy the length of boat they recommend, and the scope with chain. http://cooperanchors.com.au/the-cooper-anchor/

10 metre of chain with this anchor and a 7.2 fibreglass boat wont go anywhere unless i pull it up
There are two types of people ,do'ers and watchers
Right now the do'ers are the doing it
And the watchers are watching us do it

Delta.
I have 6.1 m ally boat. Had problems with dragging on a cheap 6kg danforth and 4m of chain with any wind or current. My son dived on the new and old anchor set ups to see how the setups performed.
I ended up getting a 6kg Lewmar Delta anchor and 7 metres of 8mm chain after much research. Good setup and fixed my issues. Length of and size of chain is crucial-definitely get at least just over the length of your boat if not more. It just depends how much weight you are prepared or capable of lifting.i have to admit I am not a fan of the cheap danforth anchor especially having used and observed both anchors now. The delta is very good.
But with my choice of anchor it came down to what I was prepared to spend. My anchor and chain setup total was about $225. Sarca is very good anchor (mate has one) but costs more and for my situation was more bulkier to store. Same with some other very good more modern anchors.

I did alot of research before I brought my anchor.
But all the research really told me is that different anchors suit different conditions i.e. weed, mud sand etc. I brought a Delta, because the reviews were quite good, but also my long term plan was to install a bow sprit and winch.
There are a lot of boats out there with SARCA anchors, and these would be ideal for just fishing. I read some where that if the boat drifts over the anchor and then takes the strain in the opposite direction, because of the slide slot for the chain, the anchor can pull out.
Because of that and I overnight I choose the Delta. My spare is a Danforth. However the holding power of an anchor has much to do with the length of chain on it. The chain needs to be a little weighty as well.

The chances of the boat
The chances of the boat drifting directly over a sarca and lifting it out would be zero I reckon if there is chain. We have had one for 5 years and overnight often. In the morning I can see where the tide/wind has moved the boat and the chain dragged around on the sand.
