Who would have thought boat hunting was so difficult...

I cant belive trying to find the right runabout under 10k can be so frustrating.
Is it just me or is it a stressfull experience????
Also any advise would be great , places to buy from? , good hulls- bad hulls ?, outboards to stear clear of ? two stroke or four stroke?
Or maybe you know someone who is selling one prefferably ally with a min 30hp?
Cheers Joe

the only advice i can
give you is take you time and dont rush into what you think is a "gem" get a mate to look at as well and give it a really good look over! as once you get it home you will pick all the little things you never saw before buying it! my opinion but stay away from etecs had a few mates who have blown the ecm,s on them and needed a tow in!! buy a honda or a suzuki!

Etecs
I've got a 60hp Etec and it hasn't missed a beat in the 4 years since it was fitted, its done around 350 hours and only just had its first service. All that was needed was a new water pump because of sand going through it from a 4 day search up the river for a missing boy in flood conditions, an O ring on the thermostat housing , a fuel filter and two spark plugs.
Now where were we, oh yes, looking for a boat under $10k, give our sponsors a call and see what they have to offer, if they haven't got the right one they will be able to find it a lot quicker and easier than you without all the leg work

I have the purchase nailed down to the Trophy 2303; onto my 3rd inspection now with the last 2 not coming up to scratch on the engines & also one had some suspect shit with the hull. Anyway I have my fingers crossed
What size ally are you looking at? fishing styles etc? might be able to narrow it down choice wise

boatsonline
try boatsonline its a great website also try looking at some of the dealers that offer 2nd hand boats but bear in mind that every brand of motor out there has problems you just need to find one that has been looked after and serviced regulary and used not left to sit around so low hours is not always a good point you can get condition reports done at some of your better dealers as well for more peace of mind good luck and hope you find a bargain

getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

Look for electrolysis
have a good look at the hull. It usually starts in spots that arent easily seen. Up under gunnels, bows, bung holes.ect. A good mag to buy is Jeff Websters "buying a secondhand boat". Invaluable info to read about buying and fixing used boats. Check that everything works. Even jack the trailer and check for bearing slop. Even take the boat for a run off the local ramp. Do a revs check on it/any moneys owing or been in a prang? To name but just a few things!!
